Kaapo Kähkönen assigned to Moose

The Winnipeg Jets announced today the team claimed goaltender Kaapo Käkhönen off waivers from the Colorado Avalanche and assigned him to the Manitoba Moose.

Käkhönen, 28, appeared in one game with the Avalanche in a 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay. The Helsinki, Finland product also posted a 2.57 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in a pair of losses with the AHL's Colorado Eagles. During the 2023-24 campaign, Käkhönen posted a 7-24-3 record with a 3.64 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage split between the San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils.

The Minnesota Wild 2014 fourth round pick holds a 42-22-11 record in 75 AHL appearances with the Iowa Wild and Colorado Eagles. Käkhönen has a career 2.45 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage and 13 shutouts. He won the 2020 Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL's top goaltender. Käkhönen posted a 25-6-3 record that season, supported by a 2.07 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. He led the AHL with seven shutouts.
