Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (5-1-0-0) scored a second-straight victory over the Texas Stars (1-3-1-1) by a 4-3 scoreline, in overtime, at Canada Life Centre on Sunday. Manitoba was coming off a 7-4 win over the Stars on Friday evening.

The Stars opened the scoring 18 seconds into the game. Ellis Rickwood picked off a Moose pass at the blueline and fed Dylan Hryckowian, who placed his one-timer perfectly to beat Thomas Milic and make it 1-0 for the Stars. Manitoba responded at 12:05 of the frame. Colby Barlow’s original shot missed the net wide, but the puck took a Moose bounce and came right back to him. Barlow batted his third goal of the campaign into the open cage, tying the game at one. The Moose were forced to kill off three minor penalties in the frame, including a five-on-three chance, but succeeded in holding the 1-1 score into the break. Milic made 12 stops in the period, while Halverson answered with eight.

Manitoba killed another penalty inside of five minutes in the second, before getting a chance with the man advantage late in the frame. With Aram Minnetian in the box for tripping, Nikita Chibrikov jumped on a loose puck in the blue ice, and banged it past Halverson to give the Moose a 2-1 lead. Milic stopped all eight shots he faced in the second to hold the scoreline in place. Halverson stopped nine Moose offerings.

The third began with Tristian Bertucci tying the game for Texas less than four minutes into the period. The Stars took a 3-2 lead less than one minute later, with Emil Hemming ripping a one-timer from the slot. Chibrikov pulled the game back level at 8:08, beating Halverson for his second power play goal of the contest. Neither side could find a winner before the end of regulation. Brayden Yager was the hero for Manitoba, scoring on an end-to-end rush at 1:52 of the extra time. Yager’s goal on the only shot of overtime and gave the Moose their fourth-consecutive win on home ice by a 4-3 scoreline.
