Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (4-1-0-0) claimed their third win on home ice with a 7-4 victory over the Texas Stars (1-3-0-1) at Canada Life Centre. Manitoba was coming off a 6-1 win against the Chicago Wolves the previous Saturday.

The Stars controlled the opening 20 minutes. Artem Shlaine opened the scoring, 3:27 into the game, on a two-on-one rush. The Stars struck again on the power play less than four minutes later. Dylan Hryckowian made it 2-0 Stars after Shlaine slipped a pass into the slot. Brandon Halverson made six stops in the Texas crease, while Domenic DiVincentiis responded with nine.

Manitoba responded big-time in the second, with the line of Brayden Yager, Lucas Wahlin and Nikita Chibrikov on the ice for all three goals. Wahlin was Johnny on the spot to bring the Moose within one at 3:20 by chipping in a Yager rebound. Chibrikov levelled the score at 10:06, spinning a shot toward goal after some chaos in front. The Moose took their first lead of the hockey game less than a minute later. Alfons Freij looped a circle around the offensive zone, and ripped a shot into the top corner. DiVincentiis stopped all 16 shots he faced in the second.

Texas picked up a marker courtesy of Aram Minnetian 1:42 into the third, creaking the door open. Yager slammed it shut just over a minute later, beating Halverson above the blocker for a power play goal. Colby Barlow added his name to the scoresheet at 8:56, clanging home a loose puck for a 5-3 edge. Yager tallied again 41 seconds after Barlow, making it 6-3 Moose. Mike Sgarbossa pulled one back for Texas at 15:02, but Danny Zhilkin iced the game with an empty netter, sending the Moose home 7-4 winners.
