Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (9-4-0-0) took down the Toronto Marlies (7-4-1-0) with a 2-1 overtime win at Canada Life Centre on Friday evening. They were coming off a 6-3 win over the Rockford IceHogs on Oct. 30 at BMO Center.
Manitoba narrowly edged the Marlies 11-9 on the shot clock in the opening 20 minutes and carried a 1-0 lead to the break. Walker Duehr snatched an errant pass in the slot, and picked his spot over the shoulder of Artur Akhtyamov at 8:07. The Moose were twice thwarted on the man-advantage, and were unable to extend their lead. Domenic DiVincentiis was solid in the first, standing tall against all nine Marlies’ offerings to hold the 1-0 scoreline into the break.
Toronto tied the game early in the second. Marc Johnstone raced in on a partial break, and slid his shot through the legs of DiVincentiis to level the score at 1-1. The Moose had a handful of good chances to regain the lead, but couldn’t solve Akhtyamov. Manitoba continued to lead on the shot clock through two, owning a 17-15 edge.
The defences doubled down in the third, with neither side finding a go-ahead tally through 60 minutes. Duehr made his presence felt once again in overtime, racing down the ice with Danny Zhilkin. Zhilkin fed a cross-ice pass to Duehr, who tapped it home, handing the Moose a 2-1 win over the Marlies on home ice.

“It was hard work; that’s a good hockey team on the other side. We talked about it in the room before the game. We have to build on the momentum from the end of the road trip. We needed that type of performance to keep it going.”
