A Healthy Helping of Mayo
Dysin Mayo is set to reach 600 professional games in his next outing, a highlight in his career which began at the end of 2015-16. The Victoria, B.C. native is in his first year in antlers after inking a two-year deal with the club in the offseason. He has 489 games of AHL experience, to go along with 25 games in the ECHL and another 85 in the NHL. Mayo has recorded 126 points (32G, 94A) in the AHL. He has spent his career with four different organizations, including the Arizona Coyotes, where he was a fifth-round draft pick in 2014. He also spent time in the Vegas Golden Knights and Columbus Blue Jackets organizations before heading to Manitoba. Mayo also suited up for Team Canada at the 2022 World Championships with Moose teammate Noah Gregor, and Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry.
The Powerkill
Parker Ford scored Manitoba’s first short handed goal of the season on Saturday night in Chicago, blocking a point shot and scoring on the ensuing breakaway. The Moose are one of nine teams in the AHL to score a man down in the early going of 2025-26. They finished tied for third with 12 short handed tallies in 2025-26, just one behind the Laval Rocket and Utica Comets for the top spot. That mark was enough for a share of the top spot in the Western Conference, which the Moose shared with the San Diego Gulls. Walker Duehr led the Moose with five short handed goals, while Phil Di Giuseppe trailed close behind with four. Isaak Phillips scored two, while Danny Zhilkin scored the other.
Hot Potato, Pass It On
The Moose have played the same unit of 12 forwards in each of their first four games to open the 2026-27 season, and they have all posted at least a point. Eleven of those players have also recorded a goal, and 10 have at least two points. Four defenders have chipped in on the offence, as well, bringing the total of players with points to 16. In the plus/minus category, 16 of Manitoba’s 18 skaters are even or better, with 15 players owning plus ratings. Five players are knotted for the team lead at plus-four, with Noah Gregor, Parker Ford, Lukas Gustafsson, Dysin Mayo, and Ashton Sautner being the representatives.
Danil the Thrill
Danny Zhilkin is off to a good start in 2026-27, recording four points (1G, 3A) in his first four games. The Moscow, Russia native is in his fourth season as a professional, and is coming off his most productive season in 2025-26, where he scored 24 points (12G, 12A) in 62 games, and made his NHL debut. Zhilkin tallied two helpers in the first period of Saturday’s win over the Chicago Wolves, his second multi-point game of the campaign, and ninth of his AHL career.
Who’s Trending?
Kevin He has picked up with the Moose where he left off in his junior career, scoring three goals in his first four games in antlers. He has added another assist, which came in Manitoba’s home opener, and has picked up a point in three of his four games since turning pro. He’s three goals are tied for second among rookies in the AHL.
