The Manitoba Moose (4-7-0-0) make their first visit to BMO Center tonight (7 p.m. CT) to take on the Rockford IceHogs (3-7-0-0). The Moose broke out of a losing skid with a 5-4 shootout win in Milwaukee on Wednesday. Elias Salomonsson led the way with two goals and an assist in the victory. The IceHogs seek to snap out of a four-game losing streak of their own tonight. Coverage of tonight's game begins at 6:45 p.m. CT on CJOB.com/sports, the Winnipeg Jets App and AHLTV on FloHockey. Multi-Point Milestone

Defenceman Elias Salomonsson is off to a productive start in his AHL career. Salomonsson scored twice on Wednesday, and added an assist, for his first multi-goal and three-point games in the AHL. The Skellefteå, Sweden product has nine points (3G, 6A) and is tied for the Moose lead in goals, assists and points. Salomonsson is tied for ninth among AHL defencemen in points and is tied for fifth in goals. The 2022 second round pick is third among rookie defenders in points. Salomonsson is one of three defencemen to lead, or be tied for the lead, in points on his team.

Call in the Closers

Nikita Chibrikov nabbed the shootout-winner, in addition to his pair of assists, in Wednesday’s victory. It was Chibrikov’s fourth shootout goal on his seventh career attempt ( 57.1%) after going 3/6 during the 2023-24 season. The tally also marked the second shootout-winning goal of Chibrikov’s career. Backing up Chibrikov was Thomas Milic, who stopped all three Milwaukee shooters for the win. Milic has a career 4-1 record in shootouts. The netminder of 27 of 32 shootout attempts across (84.4%) his five appearances. The Coquitlam, B.C. native faced the most shootout attempts in the AHL and ranked fifth among goaltenders in shootout save percentage (min. 10 attempts) during the 2023-24 campaign.

Road Warriors

The Moose picked up their third road win of the season in their seventh outing. Manitoba holds a better points percentage on the road (.429) than it does at home (.250). That continues a 2023-24 trend when the Moose held a .569 points percentage in enemy territory, versus a .417 percentage at home. The Moose special teams currently show better on the road with an 18.2 percent success rate on the power play and shutting down 85.7 percent of opposition power plays. Elias Salomonsson leads the team with seven points (3G, 4A) on the road.

Moose defenceman Simon Lundmark played his 199th game on Wednesday, bringing the Stockholm, Sweden product to the precipice of a milestone. Lundmark’s next game makes him the fourth Moose player this season to skate in his 200th AHL contest. The Winnipeg Jets 2019 second round pick made his AHL debut Oct. 16/21 and has 51 points (13G, 38A) in his 199 games. Lundmark currently sits with three points (1G, 2A) in 11 games this season.

Dominic Toninato got the Moose started with his third goal of the season on Wednesday. Toninato is tied with four other Moose for the team’s goal-scoring lead. It was Toninato’s first power play tally of the season. The Duluth, Min. product scored two power play goals in
2023-24 and a career-high six power play markers during the 2022-23 campaign.
