The Glass is Half Empey

Tyson Empey made a big impact in the second period of Saturday’s contest, contributing the first “Gordie Howe hat trick” of his career. Empey assisted on Brayden Yager’s goal, before scoring one of his own just over three minutes later. The goal was his first of the campaign, and the Swift Current, Sask. native is up to three points (1G, 2A) on the season. It was the second multi-point game of his career. Empey has suited up in 163 AHL games across five seasons, playing with the Tucson Roadrunners, the Hershey Bears, and then the Moose. He has 31 points (12G, 19A) in his AHL career.

Philly Philly

Isaak Phillips’ 19 points (5G, 14A) in 43 games this season are already the third-highest mark of his AHL career, topped only by 25 points (10G, 15A) in 2021-22, and 23 points (6G, 17A) in 2022-23. The Barrie, Ont. native has four points (2G, 2A) in six games since Valentine’s Day. He ranks third on the team among defencemen in points, and paces the group on the current roster. Phillips is a veteran of 281 games in the AHL, scoring 106 points (31G, 75A). The Winnipeg Jets acquired his services in exchange for Dmitry Kuzmin in 2024-25.

That’s How You Finish

Brayden Yager finished off a beautiful goal on Saturday evening, going bar-down over the glove of Matthew Murray on a two-on-one. It was his seventh goal of the season. The rookie forward is one of just four players (Samuel Fagemo, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, and Phil Di Giuseppe) who have skated in all of Manitoba’s 48 games this season. Yager has posted 18 points (7G, 11A) in his first taste of professional hockey. Each of the Saskatoon, Sask. native’s past three points have been goals. Yager was a first round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2023, before being traded to the Winnipeg Jets in August of 2024 in exchange for Rutger McGroarty.

Dylan Anhorn recorded his sixth point (1G, 5A) with an assist on Saturday evening. All of those points were tallied in the past 10 contests. The Calgary, Alta. native has at least one shot in each of his past four games, including three on Saturday. Anhorn has 23 points (4G, 19A) through the first 71 games on his AHL career. He owns a plus-five rating this season.
