The Manitoba Moose (19-15-3-0) look to close the weekend with a win over the Grand Rapids Griffins (32-3-2-1) on Sunday afternoon. The Moose fell 2-1 in a tight-checking contest against the top-ranked Griffins on Sunday, snapping their modest two-game win streak. They are 5-4-1-0 in their past 10. The win was Grand Rapids’ third in a row, improving their past 10 record to 6-2-2-0.

Lock Down
Manitoba last conceded a five-on-five goal on Jan. 16 at the 8:51 mark of the first period in Laval. Since then, the Moose have played eight periods accounting for 169:56 without allowing a goal with both teams at five skaters per side. The Moose have allowed just three goals over their past three games in any situation, shutting out the Laval Rocket on Jan. 17 and earning a pair of wins in Quebec to bring their record to 2-1-0-0 in the stretch. Manitoba’s goaltending duo has combined to make 88 saves in their past three games, owning a .967 save percentage collectively. On the season, the Moose have allowed 107 goals against, the fifth-fewest in the AHL.
The Spengler Bump
Mason Shaw scored Manitoba’s lone goal on Friday for his second tally in as many games, and third in the past four. The goals continue a recent trend since the Manitoba captain returned from representing Canada at the Spengler Cup over the holiday break. Shaw has five goals and six points in eight games since playing in the tournament. The Wainwright, Alta. product recorded 10 shots on goal over his past two outings, including a season-high six shots on Jan. 17 in Laval. Shaw holds an even, or better, rating in seven of his eight games since returning with a plus-four rating in that span. He has 24 points (11G, 13A) in 36 games this season.
Happy Returns
Defenceman Isaak Phillips and forward Danny Zhilkin returned to the Moose lineup on Friday after playing two games and four games respectively with the Winnipeg Jets. Phillips posted an assist, along with two shots on goal, in his first game back. The defender has four assists in his past seven AHL games. Phillips owns 14 points (3G, 11A) in 34 AHL games on the campaign. Zhilkin marked down two shots on goal in his first game back with the Moose, and his first game action in 10 days. The centreman averaged 8:14 in ice time with the Jets, while posting a plus-two rating in his four games. Zhilkin has 14 points (7G, 7A) in 31 games with the Moose this season.
Sunday Afternoons
The Moose have played seven games on Sunday this season, with each one slated as a matinee matchup. Manitoba holds a 3-2-2-0 record on Sundays so far this season. Despite holding points in five of their seven Sunday games, the Moose have been outscored 17-24 while outshooting their opposition by a 239-184 margin. Kale Clague leads the Moose with seven points (3G, 4A) in six Sunday games this season. Centre David Gustafsson’s three goals are tied with Clague for the team lead on the final day of the week.
