Manitoba Power Kill
The Moose currently own one of the best penalty kills in the AHL, successfully managing 83.6 percent of their opportunities. That ranks eighth in the league. The Moose also own the league’s third-ranked penalty kill while on the road, shutting down 87.3 percent of opposition chances. They have been particularly strong over their past six games, allowing just a single power-play goal in 18 occurrences while operating down a man. Manitoba has allowed just one goal while shorthanded through 11 Texas Stars power plays over four games this season. All of those meetings took place in early November.
Help is on the Way
In advance of the NHL’s Olympic break, the Winnipeg Jets loaned defencemen Isaak Phillips and Elias Salomonsson to the Moose. Phillips has 15 points (3G, 12A) and a plus-five rating in 35 games with the Moose this season and appeared in a pair of games with the Jets. Salomonsson has eight points (1G, 7A) in 25 games with the Moose so far this season. The defender has also appeared in 13 games with the Winnipeg Jets, making his NHL debut on Nov. 26 against the Washington Capitals. Both defencemen have had a pair of stints with the Jets this season. Phillips is currently riding a two-game point streak in the AHL, recording an assist in each of his past two contests.
Keep on Rolling
David Gustafsson has points in back-to-back games, bringing him to 25 points (8G, 17A) on the campaign. Gustafsson’s 17 assists already represent a career high for the centreman after he posted 15 assists in 47 games during the 2021-22 season. The Tingsryd, Sweden product is tied with Ville Heinola for the team lead in assists. Gustafsson’s 25 points are just five back of the career mark of 30 points he set back in 2021-22. His plus-10 rating is also tied for the team lead.
The Best Offence…
The Moose have been dialled in defensively in their successful six-game stretch, holding their opposition to seven goals in that time, and never allowing more than two goals in a game. During that time, they allowed just one goal to the Laval Rockets, who have scored the seventh-most goals in the league, across two games, and allowed only four goals in two games to the Grand Rapids Griffins, who have scored the third-most goals in the league. In 2025-26, only three teams have allowed fewer goals than the Moose: the Griffins, Providence Bruins, and Colorado Eagles, all three of whom lead their respective divisions. The Moose have allowed 2.78 goals per game through their first 40 contests, good for the eighth-best mark in the league.
