Finding Opportunities in Sports

Previous participants in the Celebrating Women in Sport Job Shadow Program discuss their experiences through the program

Gracy Coreau – 2025

Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in the Women in Sport Job Shadow Program, and it was an experience that truly inspired me. At the time, I was in the final year of my degree and wasn’t completely sure what my path would look like after graduation. I knew I wanted to build a career in business and sport, and this program gave me the clarity that I was looking for.

The program is built to educate and inspire young women. We were given a behind-the-scenes look at a Manitoba Moose gameday and all the moving parts that come along with it. We heard from multiple departments who walked us through their day-to-day responsibilities and shared what their roles involve. Learning directly from these professionals was incredibly impactful. You could really tell how much thought and effort went into making this experience meaningful for every participant.

One of my favourite moments was having lunch with female executives at the True North Sports + Entertainment offices. These women are exceptional leaders and role models. Listening to their career journeys, the challenges they’ve faced, and the advice they shared left a lasting impression on me. It was empowering to see women thriving in leadership positions within a traditionally male-dominated industry.

This experience helped shape the direction of my career and gave me a better sense of what a future in sport could look like. Through the program, I learned about a job opportunity that inspired me to apply. I now work in the Corporate Partnerships department at TNSE and genuinely love what I do.

I walked away from the program feeling inspired and motivated. I’m so grateful to have been part of it. I truly believe any young woman curious about the industry would benefit from this experience.

Alyssa Houde – 2024

Participating in the Manitoba Moose Women in Sport Job Shadow Program was genuinely one of the most impactful experiences I’ve had in my sports career so far. As a lifelong hockey fan, it was incredibly cool to take a look under the hood and learn about all the different components that make a professional team run. It gave me a whole new level of appreciation for how much work, coordination, and passion go into the day-to-day operation of the Moose.

Everyone I met through the program was incredibly kind and welcoming of my many (many, many) questions. I never once felt like I was in the way or asking something unimportant. Instead, people took the time to both explain their role, and also show me what it actually looks like. That openness was empowering and truly helped me see myself belonging in this space. It has inspired much of the work I’ve done in hockey since, as I’ve tried to further that same mission of making sport more accessible for women.

To this day, I value the connections I made through this program. Those relationships have been massive contributors to the way my career in sports has grown since I participated. At the time, I didn’t have a clear direction in mind for my path forward in sport. The encouragement I received, along with seeing the range of opportunities available, was incredibly important for me. I still find myself talking about what I learned in this program, and I’d strongly encourage anyone even slightly curious about working in sport to apply.

The application period for the 2026 Celebrating Women in Sport Job Shadow Program is open until March 8.
