Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (2-0-0-0) swept their two-game series against the Chicago Wolves (0-2-0-0) with an 8-3 win at Canada Life on Sunday afternoon. Manitoba was coming off a 3-0 win over Chicago on Saturday.
The offences had their way in the opening 20 minutes, with each team finding the back of the net three times. Lucas Wahlin ripped a shot over the shoulder of Ruslan Khazheyev 1:14 into the frame, which was followed quickly by a second Moose marker. Alfons Freij swatted home his first career AHL goal, putting Manitoba up 2-0. Brayden Yager made it 3-0, wiring home a shot past Khazheyev to finish off a scramble on the power play. The Wolves got their offence rolling midway through the period. Juha Jääskä brought Chicago within two, and under four minutes later, Skyler Brind’Amour made it 3-2. Bradly Nadeau then ripped a one-timer past Thomas Milic with 30 seconds to go in the period, helping the Wolves erase the early 3-0 deficit before the break.
The Moose jumped right back in front when Danny Zhilkin beat Khazheyev from the wing, 2:22 into the second, to give the Moose the lead once again. Kevin He scored his second goal in as many games 11:56 into the frame, with Colby Barlow sending a perfect cross-ice pass to his linemate. Noah Gregor extended the lead to 6-3 less than two minutes later, knocking a rolling puck into the twine. Milic made a sprawling save right off the ensuing faceoff, and locked things down from there to ensure the Moose went into the locker room up by a trio.
Manitoba put the game out of reach in the third. Davis Burnside jumped on a rebound and slotted it home for his first AHL goal. Yager followed it up with his second goal of the contest two minutes later, giving the Moose an 8-3 victory. Milic made 25 saves in the win.
