Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (29-23-5-1) dropped a 4-3 decision to the Tucson Roadrunners (28-23-9-0) at Canada Life Centre on Saturday afternoon. They were coming off a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Admirals on Thursday evening.

There were only 10 combined shots between the two sides in the opening 20, with the Moose holding a slight 6-4 edge. Jaret Anderson-Dolan broke the deadlock with 4:20 to play in the period, hearing the ping of the goalpost before it hit the back of the net. Thomas Milic made all four stops asked of him in the frame, as the Moose took a 1-0 lead into the room.

The Roadrunners responded with a power play goal early in the second. Daniil But waited patiently before finishing under the bar from a sharp angle 59 seconds into the frame. Andrew Agozzino then gave Tucson a 2-1 lead with a breakaway tally at 8:01. Jaxson Stauber turned away all five Moose offerings in the second, while Milic was the busier of the two goaltenders, making 12 saves of his own.

Walker Duehr tied the game at 2:55 of the third period with a shot over the shoulder of Stauber. The Roadrunners answered back soon thereafter with another power play tally. Agozzino tallied his second of the contest at 5:45 off a brilliant setup from Scott Perunovich. Tucson claimed a 4-2 lead with five minutes left to play courtesy of Austin Poganski. Anderson-Dolan got one back with just under 20 seconds left to play, but the Moose couldn’t find an equalizer in the late stages, falling 4-3 on home ice.

Quotable

“I thought we had a good first, and they put on a good push in the second, and with their power play. It’s the time of the year where it comes down to that, and they got two big goals.”
