Going Way Back
The Tucson Roadrunners haven’t paid Canada Life Centre a visit since April 7 and 9 of 2017, both of which resulted in one-goal victories for the Moose. Manitoba got goals from four different sources the last time they hosted Tucson, with Francis Beauvillier, Darren Kramer, JC Lipon, and Ryan Olsen lighting the lamp. Eric Comrie got the start in goal for Manitoba, making 28 saves, including turning away a Jalen Smereck penalty shot. Moose captain Patrice Cormier led the home side with five shots, while Kyle Connor, Jack Roslovic, and Olsen trailed close behind with four. Michael Bunting and Chris Mueller both scored two points (1G, 1A) for Tucson in the loss. The Moose and the Roadrunners split the season series, with both sides claiming a pair of wins on home ice.
Foggy Winnipeg Nights
Samuel Fagemo scored his 16th goal of the season on Thursday night against the Milwaukee Admirals, overtaking Mason Shaw for the team lead in the category. Up to 29 points (16G, 13A) on the campaign, the Gothenburg, Sweden native leads the club in ‘first goals,’ with six, and is third with 124 shots on goal. Five of Fagemo’s goals have come on the power play, the most of anyone on the Moose, with two more being insurance markers, tied with five others for the most. Fagemo owns a 12.9 shooting percentage this season.
Have a Night, Chibas
Nikita Chibrikov recorded his second multi-point game of the season on Thursday night, potting a goal and adding a helper. The Moscow, Russia native has 11 points (5G, 6A) in 42 games with the Moose this season, with six points (3G, 3A) coming in the past nine contests. Chibrikov is approaching the 150 games milestone, currently standing at 142, while being three assists shy of 50 in his AHL tenure. He began the season in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets, playing in eight contests. Chibrikov was a Jets second round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Saturday’s Alright
The Moose have played to a 7-6-2-0 record in Saturday games this season, with six of those contests coming in the back half of a back-to-back. Manitoba has been outscored 45-41 on Saturday, but has outshot its opposition 457-389. The penalty kill has been a source of offence on Saturdays, with the Moose recording six of their nine shorthanded goals on the day. Manitoba is 3-2-1-0 at home on the first day of the weekend, with two Saturday games at Canada Life Centre still on the schedule. In their 15 Saturday contests, the Moose are led by David Gustafsson with 11 points (3G, 8A), followed by Danny Zhilkin, who has 10 points (5G, 5A).
