Manitoba Moose rookie forward Mike Brown recently answered questions submitted by the fans. Here are his answers:

Hi Mike. When you were a kid, did you have a favourite NHL team you wanted to play for? Jack - Winnipeg, MB
Growing up in Chicago, probably the Chicago Blackhawks. I pretty much knew the whole team just from being around them so much.

Hey Brown, I'm a Brazilian fan, and I would like to know if you have played any other sports, such as soccer? Melina - Winnipeg, MB
I played soccer when I was a young kid for conditioning.

What was your worst injury playing hockey? Kyle - Winnipeg, MB
I separated my shoulder about three years ago from a hit. It took me a couple weeks to recover from it.

Hey Mike. I enjoy watching you play hockey. Growing up in Illinois and wanting to play hockey, were you always headed in the direction of college? Was there ever thought or consideration of playing junior in Canada? Thanks. Rory - Winnipeg, MB
I just considered playing college when I went to the US national development team in my junior and senior year of high school. I just figured out that there was college hockey and scholarships available. The school that I chose (University of Michigan) was right in the area of the US team and I heard it was a great hockey school. I thought about playing Junior in Canada a little bit, but I just decided to go to College instead.

Hey, first of all, you're doing great out there! You guys are doing awesome. So my question is: When you came into the AHL, did you figure out that your style of play had to change because of the higher level then what you were used to? And how did it change? Stefan - Winnipeg, MB
My style of play is the same, it's just the players I'm playing against are bigger, stronger, faster, and more experienced. I knew it was going to be a tougher league compared to college game-style, and so far that's what it's been.

Which area of your game do you think you need to improve on most to make the next step up to the NHL, be it with the Canucks or with another team?
Richard - Winnipeg, MB
Play more consistently and maybe get better with my hands around the net.

Mike, what is your most memorable hockey moment and why? Brett - Winnipeg, MB
Winning the Under-17 Challenge here in Winnipeg for the US Team was a great moment. It was my first international tournament and we won it.

What was the funniest or weirdest thing that has ever happened during your career in a hockey game? Andre - Winnipeg, MB
There's nothing too crazy, but a couple of games I've seen some funny bounces for goals.

Why did you choose to wear the number 13 and do you have any superstitious feelings about the number? If not, do you have any other superstitions? Ada - Winnipeg, MB
I chose the number in my Under-18 year with the US Team and I've worn it ever since. It got me to where I'm playing now, so I have no problems with the number. There's no specific reason why I chose it. Maybe I was just trying to go against the grain.

What is your favourite AHL team to play against and what is your least favourite team to play against? Kayla - Winnipeg, MB
My favourite AHL team to play against is probably Chicago, because it's my home town. I've grown up going to Wolves games. It was weird playing them for the first time because I've watched them growing up and I found myself playing against the guys that I've watched. I don't really like playing in Cleveland because they don't get too many fans out to the games.
Welcome to our team, you are certainly a great asset. How does it feel playing with great veterans such as Mike Keane and Jimmy Roy? Patricia - Winnipeg, MB
It's obviously a great thing to play with guys who have been around for a long time and know a lot about the game. Especially a guy like Jimmy Roy who's been in the organization. Keane shares my playing style, so he's someone to look up to.

Who is your biggest inspiration on this team, to keep you going? Kyle - Winnipeg, MB
Everyone gets everyone going. It's a good team atmosphere in the locker room and on the ice.

Who is your best friend on the team? Anonymous - Winnipeg, MB
I don't have one specific friend. We're all a group of real close friends. A lot of the guys have families so they don't hang out too often off the ice.

What's a typical day in the life of Mike Brown like? (game day or off day) Ada - Winnipeg, MB
- Real boring. On a non-gameday, wake up in the morning at about 8:30, practice at around 10:00, eat, watch some TV during the day, maybe play a couple of video games, and then get a good dinner, and then go to bed.
- On a gameday, same thing in the morning except I eat at around 12:30 for a 7:30 game. I come to the rink at about 5:00, get all my stuff ready for the game, like tape my sticks, and just get myself prepared for the game.

Do you have any nicknames other than Brownie? Did you have any nicknames as a kid? Erin - Gimli, MB
Brownie's pretty much my only nickname. It's always been Brownie, my whole life.

Hey Brownie. I just want to know this: Do you like to travel, for example to Europe? (Hamburg is a great city by the way!) Juliane - Hamburg, Germany
I've done a lot of traveling when I played for the US Team. We went to Stockholm, Prague, Russia, Slovakia. There's not too much time when we visit cities for hockey, but you can get a basic feel for what the city is like and you can sightsee a little bit.

Brownie, my name is Peyton and boy am I glad you're a Moose! My question is, what did you do for Christmas? Did you go home to the United States? Thank you Brownie!!! Love Peyton. Peyton - Winnipeg, MB
I went home to see my family in Chicago and it was a great time to rest and get away from the game for a couple of days.

Hey Mike. You're listed as Mike S. Brown on the AHL stats sheets. What does the 'S' stand for? Anita - Winnipeg, MB
Steven.
