MANITOBA EXTENDS WINLESS STREAK TO THREE STRAIGHT GAMES

The Manitoba Moose scored three goals in the third period on Tuesday night, but it was not enough to fight back against the Hartford Wolf Pack who defeated the home team 6-3. Nolan Baumgartner broke Manitoba’s goose-egg while Guillaume Desbiens scored the remaining two goals in front of 5789 fans at the MTS Centre. The Moose are now winless in their last three home match-ups. Last night’s defeat drops Manitoba’s overall record against Hartford to 4-4-1-0 (2-3-0-0 at the MTS Centre).

First Period

At 1:37, Manitoba’s penalty killers made their debut when Michel Ouellet was put away for slashing. The Moose killed-off the two-minutes without letting Hartford register their first shot on Karl Goehring’s net.

Tommy Pyatt’s hooking punishment at 4:21 put the Moose on their first man-advantage of the night, but like the Wolf Pack they were unable to capitalize on their opening powerplay.

Hartford’s Brandon Sugden tried to pick a fight with Michel Ouellet, but Guillaume Desbeins intervened to defend the right winger, starting a battle of his own. After both players fell to the ice, Sugden and Desbiens were each dealt five-minute majors for fighting.

In his first game in Moose colors this season, Jannik Hansen gave the Wolf Pack their second powerplay of the game at 9:06. Poised at the point, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau’s shot was stopped by Goehring but Artem Anisimov slapped the rebound in the backdoor to put his team up by one.

The Moose offered another powerplay to the visitors at 14:37, and with the same scoring combination of Parenteau and Anisimov the Wolf Pack scored their second unanswered goal of the night.
 

Second Period

The second stanza saw the Wolf Pack extend their lead even further when Greg Moore slid the puck passed Goehring’s glove to put the visitors on top by three.

Hartford benefited from their fourth powerplay at 6:31 when Daniel Rahimi was reprimanded for hooking. The Wolf Pack went three-for-four on the PP when Corey Potter went top shelf on Goehring for a 4-0 lead.

Manitoba opted to switch goaltenders after the fourth goal, putting Cory Schneider between the home pipes.
 

Third Period

A mere 1:13 in the final frame brought more scoring action for the Wolf Pack. Patrick Rissmiller netted an unassisted goal, his fifth of the season and the fifth of the night, against Cory Schneider.

Nolan Baumgartner broke the Moose’s goose-egg at 6:34 with a back handed smack that trailed passed Miika Wiikman. Exactly a minute later, Guillaume Desbiens narrowed the gap even more, with help from Jason Krog and Michel Ouellet, to change the score 5-2.

Just when the Moose began to get some momentum, Hartford struck again. Mike Ouellette’s shot deflected up into the air and off of Schneider’s back to put the visitors up 6-2. 

The Moose continued to fight back and Guillaume Desbiens netted his second of the night, with Jordan Fox earning the assist in his Moose debut. The solid third period effort was not enough and the Moose dropped their match-up 6-3 to the Wolf Pack.
