MANITOBA CLOSES OUT SEASON SET WITH LAKE ERIE

By Christina Caligiuri

The Manitoba Moose suffered a 3-2 loss to the Lake Erie Monsters in their last meeting this regular season in front of 7,859 fans at the MTS Centre. Alexandre Bolduc and Guillaume Desbiens both potted goals while Cory Schneider stopped 29 of 31 shots in his eighth loss this campaign.

Marty Murray’s boarding charge at 8:19 put the Monsters on the first powerplay of the game.  A defensive slip up by Lake Erie allowed Alexandre Bolduc to escape with the puck. After dancing around two-defencemen, the feisty-centre  deked out Tyler Weiman and snuck the puck through his five-hole to earn a shorthanded goal and the lead at 9:04.

At 13:01, Zach Tarkir’s high-sticking penalty put the Moose on their first man-advantage. Despite bringing their shot count to 11, they couldn’t capitalize with an extra-attacker.

The Moose extended their lead at 16:41. Being pressured by a defender, Guillaume Desbiens’ dumped the puck at the net. The bullet hit a lucky bounce and jumped over the goal line for a two-goal lead.

Marco Rosa’s hooking penalty at 10:56 of the second stanza helped Lake Erie get on the board. With a scramble of players in front of Schneider’s crease, Ryan Stoa stuck the puck between the netminder and his left goal post to break the Monster’s goose-egg, 2-1.

With Lawrence Nycholat serving time for interference, the visitors were able to knot the game. Brian Willsie went top shelf on Schneider at 16:50 to get his club back on even ground.

With five-minutes left in the game, the Monsters were leading the Moose in shots 38-28. There shot lead finally turned into a goal lead at 14:55.  Philippe Dupuis broke into the Moose zone and tucked the puck top corner for a 3-2 tally.
