Match Up

Moose vs. Peoria:

For the first time this campaign, the Manitoba Moose will host the Peoria Rivermen to close-out the 2009-10 regular season. The Moose visited Peoria earlier this season and dropped both games to the Rivermen -- one in overtime and one in regulation. The last time the clubs met the Rivermen beat the Moose 7-1 on December 4, 2009. Historically, the Moose are 11-6-1-0 against the St. Louis Blues' affiliate, 5-3-0-0 on MTS Centre ice. In two games against the Rivermen, the Moose have only scored two goals. In fact, not one Moose skater holds more than a single point against the club from Peoria. On the other hand, Lars Eller holds three points (1g, 2a) for his club against Manitoba after one game played.

Battle for Third:

After a Moose win on Tuesday night and an Abbotsford loss on Wednesday, the fight for third place in the North Division is still up for grabs. Currently, the Moose are only three points back of the third place Heat with two games left on the regular season schedule for both clubs. Manitoba will play Peoria twice (Friday & Saturday) while Abbotsford will face-off against Lake Erie and Toronto (Saturday & Sunday). If the Moose finish in fourth place they will face-off against the first place Hamilton Bulldogs (112 points) in the North Division Semi-Final round of the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs. If they can fight their way into third, they will clash against the second place Rochester Americans (89 points).

Moving Up The PK Charts:

Just 18 games ago the Moose were 20th overall in the penalty killing department at 81.2 percent. Manitoba heads into their final pair of games in 13th place at 82.5 percent. The moose elevated themselves in the PK department by going 100 percent in three of their last four games. In fact, the Moose went eight-for-eight on the penalty kill in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs. The Moose have not dipped below the 50 percent mark on the penalty kill since February 6 against San Antonio when they killed only one of three in a 4-3 shootout win.

Players To Watch

Leader Of The Pack:

By earning two assists on Tuesday night, Marco Rosa cemented himself as Manitoba's 2009-10 leading scorer. After playing in all 78 games with the club this season, Rosa has collected a team-high 55 points (22g, 33a) along with 32 penalty minutes. He leads the team in powerplay goals with eight, powerplay assists with 10 and in shots on net with 191.

Surging Sergei:

In Manitoba's 2-1 victory over Hamilton on Tuesday night, Sergei Shirokov notched the game-winning goal along with an assist. The rookie sniper sits second on the team leaderboard with 45 points (22g, 23a) after 74 games played. The goal was his first game-winner of the season and he is second in shots with 156. He also is ninth in the league among rookie scoring.

Record Breaker:

By appearing in Friday night's game against the Rivermen, goaltender Cory Schneider will break the franchise record for most starts by a goaltender, currently set at 58 by Fred Brathwaite (1996-97). So far this season, Schneider has registerd a 3-23-2 record, 2.55 GAA and a 0.917 save percentage. Schneider's record-breaking year also includes his 32 wins this season, which is the new franchise record for most wins in a single season. Also, his 3372 minutes played so far this campaign is also a new franchise record, making him the second busiest goaltender in the AHL.

Streaks & Milestones:

  • Travis Ramsey and Marco Rosa are the only two Moose skaters who have had perfect attendance this season, playing in all 78 games so far.
  • Jordan Schroeder is playing in his 10th career AHL game on Friday night.
  • Yan Stastny is three points away from his 150th in the league.
  • Dusty Collins is one point away from his 20th in the AHL.
  • Lawrence Nycholat is one point away from his 300th in the league.
  • Tom Galvin is two points away from his 50th in the AHL.
