Match Up
Moose vs. Heat:
The Manitoba Moose are closing-out their regular season series with the Abbotsford Heat tonight with third place in the North Division on the line. So far this season the Moose are 6-1-0-0 against the Heat after dropping their first match-up and then winning six straight. Manitoba has also been perfect on visiting ice against the Heat, winning both clashes back in January and one last night. Moose skater Sergei Shirokov leads his club with nine points (1g, 8a) against the Heat while Cory Schneider has appeared in all seven games against the Calgary Flames affiliate so far this season (6-1-0, 2.10 GAA, 0.926 SV%).
Division Details:
The Manitoba Moose started their six-game North Division road trip on a good note last night after beating the Abbotsford Heat 5-2. The Moose hold a 19-11-1-0 record versus divisional foes. However, the Moose are just 7-6 in their last 13 games vs. the North since February 12 vs. Toronto. The last time the Moose swept a two-game series versus a North opponent was January 12 & 13 at Abbotsford. After this week's games against the Heat the Moose travel to Toronto to take on the Marlies April 2 & 3, and then wrap up their division schedule this season with a pair of games at Copps Coliseum against the Hamilton Bulldogs on April 4 & 6.
Two for the PP:
The Moose went two-for-six on the powerplay last night for 33.3%. In their last seven games, the Moose have notched a powerplay goal in all but one of them. They are now 26th overall in the league, cashing in at 14.2 percent. The Heat on the other hand are in 24th at 15.2 percent. They went one-for-five against Manitoba's penalty killers in last night's battle.

Moose right-winger Guillaume Desbiens notched his 17th goal of the season and added an assist in last night's 5-2 victory over the Heat. He finished the night with three shots on net and a +2 rating. The Alma, Quebec native sits fourth on the team leaderboard with 32 points (17g, 15a) after 60 games played. He also earned first-star honours in the victory.
Pope Lends a Hand:
Matt Pope, a British Columbia native, had a happy homecoming last night when he notched two assists in a 5-2 victory over the Abbotsford Heat. He recorded both helpers in the third period and finished the game with three shots on net. After 36 games played this season, Pope has recorded seven points (3g, 4a) along with 23 penalty minutes.
First For Rookie:
In his Moose debut, Aaron Volpatti scored his first professional goal in Manitoba's 5-2 victory over the Heat. He notched the goal at 6:59 of the final frame. Volpatti was signed to an ATO by the Moose on March 26, 2010.
