Moose vs. Sharks:
Wednesday night the Manitoba Moose and Worcester Sharks will clash for the final time this regular season. After earning a 3-1 victory over Worcester on Tuesday night the Moose now hold an all-time 1-2-0-0 record against the Sharks. Moose right-winger Guillaume Desbiens leads all Moose skaters with three points (1g, 2a) against the San Jose affiliate while Cory Schneider has appeared in all three games against the Sharks.
Waving to Worcester:
The Manitoba Moose are closing out their 16th two-game home series (out of 20) this season in Wednesday's game against Worcester. They now only have four more doubleheaders at home against Rockford (March 12-13), Grand Rapids (March 19 & 21), Hamilton (March 23-24) and Peoria (April 9-10). So far this campaign, Manitoba is 8-6-1-0 when closing out a two-game set on home ice, yet when taking all second games of a series (home and away) into account the Moose are 10-13-1-0. This is also the 11th season-series-closing game the Moose have played this season. If the Moose win tonight, they will finish 2-2-0-0 against the Sharks in their first-ever season against each other. After tonight's game, the Moose have to close-out six more season-series before the end of the 2009-10 regular season (Grand Rapids, Rockford, Hamilton, Abbotsford, Toronto, Peoria).
Players To Watch
Pope Notches First:
Moose right-winger Matt Pope notched his first goal of the season Tuesday night in Manitoba's 3-1 victory over Worcester. He finished the night at +1 and fired two shots on net. After 29 games in antlers this season, the Langley, B.C. native has collected two points (1g, 1a) along with 21 penalty minutes.
34 Saves for #35:
Cory Schneider stopped 34 of 35 shots in Tuesday night's victory to earn his 26th victory of the 2009-10 season. He now sits tied for third place in the league with 26 wins, only one win away from second spot. This is the most wins Schneider has ever earned in a single AHL season. After 45 games played, the third-year Moose 'tender holds a 26-18-1 record, 2.68 GAA and 0.912 save percentage.
Keane Hits a Milestone:
Captain Mike Keane is playing in his 350th game as a Moose on Wednesday night when he faces-off against the Worcester Sharks. After suiting up for 349 career games in antlers, Keane has accumulated 109 points (36g, 73a) along with 234 penalty minutes. So far this season the Winnipeg, Manitoba native has played in 59 games for 26 points (9g, 17a) -- good enough for fifth place on the team leaderboard.
Sergei Streaks:
Sniper Sergei Shirokov opened the scoring in last night's win to extend his points streak to two consecutive games. in his past two games, Shirokov has collected three points (1g, 2a). He currently sits second on the Moose leaderboard with 39 points (19g, 20a) after 59 games played.
On a Goal Spree:
Pierre-Cedric Labrie scored his fifth goal of the season last night, however he has collected three of those goals in his last six games. The Baie-Comeau, Quebec native has collected six Moose points (5g, 1a) after playing 44 games this season. He has also accumulated 69 penalty minutes.
Streaks & Milestones:
- Travis Ramsey and Marco Rosa are the only two Moose skaters who have had perfect attendance this season, playing in all 63 games so far.
- Worceser's Danny Groulx played for the Moose in 2004-05 (2g, 5a) and 2007-08 (4g, 20a).
