Match Up
Moose vs. Rampage:
The Manitoba Moose visit the AT&T Center for the first time this season to take on the San Antonio Rampage in their first of two away battles against the club starting Friday night. So far this season, the Moose are 1-0-1-0 against the Rampage after two games played at MTS Centre at the beginning of February. Historically, Manitoba is 15-9-2-4 against San Antonio (5-7-1-1 on visiting ice). Last season, the antler crew split their four-game regular season series against the Rampage with a 2-2-0-0 record. Guillaume Desbiens leads all Moose skaters with three points (2g, 1a) against the Rampage while Mikkel Boedker leads his club with three points (2g, a) against the Manitoba.
Twenty From The Finish Line:
Friday's game starts the final quarter of Manitoba's regular season and marks the start of the 2010 Calder Cup playoff push. The Moose now have 29 wins after 60 games played (29-25-5-1), tied for the club's fifth worst three-quarter performance in 13 IHL and AHL seasons. Last season the Moose earned a 4-2 victory in their 61st game in Milwuakee. Manitoba's worst AHL record at the three-quarter mark was in 2003-04 when the team was 22-28-8-2 for 54 points in 60 games. Last year's squad claimed the best ever three-quarter record with an impressive 38-17-0-5 record for 81 points.
Tight North Division Battle:
The Manitoba Moose currently sit fourth in the North Division with 64 points, yet they are only two points behind both the second and third place teams, bot sitting at 66 points. Rochester holds second place after 59 games played and Abbotsford sits in third with 61 games played. The Hamilton Bulldogs are secure in first place with 82 points -- tied for the second highest point total in the league. The Lake Erie Monsters are in fifth place with 59 points, while the Toronto Marlies are creeping up with 58 points in sixth. Grand Rapids rounds out the division with 53 points after 59 games played.
Players To Watch
P.C. Goes on a Spree:
After going goalless in 21 games, Pierre-Cedric Labrie has notched two goals in his last three contests, including the game-winner in last night's 3-2 victory over Houston. In 42 games with the Moose this season, the Baie-Comeau, Quebec native has scored five points (4g, 1a) along with 69 penalty minutes.
25 In the Win Column:
By stopping 26 of 28 shots in last night's 3-2 victory, goaltender Cory Schneider earned his 25th victory of the season. He currently sits third in the entire league in wins -- only one win behind the second place Jhonas Enroth from Portland. With 20 games left to play, Schneider is on pace to break his AHL win record which was set last season at 28. After 43 games played, the 23-year-old netminder holds a 25-17-1 record, 2.69 GAA and 0.911 save percentage.
Michael Grabs Another:
Michael Grabner's second period goal in last night's game earned him his 14th marker of the season. In his last seven games, the Villach, Austria native has collected eight points (7g, 1a). In 30 games in antlers this season, Grabner has collected 23 points (14g, 9a).
Ser-Yaaay:
Sergei Shirokov opened the scoring last night with his 18th goal of the season. He currently sits second on the Moose leaderboard with 36 points (18g, 18a) after 57 games played.
Streaks & Milestones:
- Travis Ramsey and Marco Rosa are the only two Moose skaters who have had perfect attendance this season, playing in all 60 games so far.
- Mike Keane is two points away from his 350th in Moose colours.
