Moose vs. Marlies:
Tonight the Moose travel to Ricoh Coliseum for the first time this season to face-off against the Toronto Marlies. This will be the third time the two teams have met in less than a week. So far this campaign the Moose are 3-1-0-0 against the Marlies with all four games played at MTS Centre. Historically the Moose are 23-9-2-2 against the Maple Leafs' affiliate (9-4-2-1 on visiting ice). Marco Rosa leads all Manitoba skaters with six points against Toronto (3g, 3a) while goaltender Cory Schneider has appeared in all four matches for a 1.23 GAA and 0.953 save percentage. After tonight's game the Moose will be back in Toronto on Saturday night for a rematch against the Marlies.
Surge in the Second:
The Manitoba Moose scored a season-high four goals in the second period last night in a 6-3 victory over the Rochester Americans. Marco Rosa scored two and Nolan Baumgartner and Dan Sexton netted singles to earn the season record. Previously Manitoba had netted three goals in a single period on multiple occasions, most recently in the second period on December 2 vs. Toronto (5-1W). Manitoba's franchise record for most goals in a single frame is set at six and has happened four times.
Moving On Up:
Manitoba continues their North Division tour with a game in Toronto tonight. After last night's victory the Moose regained third place in the North with 60 points. Abbotsford also holds 60 points, but the Moose have one game in hand over the Heat. Manitoba is now four points back of the second place Americans who they play again this upcoming Saturday. Hamilton remains in top spot with 76 points after 56 games played.
Players To Watch
Welcome Back:
After missing the last 10 games while playing up with the Vancouver Canucks, defenceman Nolan Baumgartner made an instant impact with a goal and assist in his return last night. Baumgartner was re-assigned to Manitoba on February 15 after playing eight games with the Canucks and collecting one goal in his last game there. Baumgartner has now appeared in 31 games with the Moose this season where he has earned nine points (2g, 7a) along with 20 penalty minutes.
All Hail the Leader:
Moose centre Marco Rosa scored two goals, including the game winner, and added an assist for his second three-point night in three games. He also scored two goals and collected an assist on February 12 against the Toronto Marlies (5-1W). Working Hard For His Money:
Moose goaltender Cory Schneider played in his 40th game of the season last night in a 6-3 victory over the Rochester Americans with 23 games left this campaign, Schneider is on pace to break the franchise record for most games played by a goaltender set at 58 (Fred Brathwaite, 1996-97). Having played so many games, Schneider sits second in the league in wins with 23 and also second in the league in losses with 16.
