Match Up

Moose vs. Rivermen:

Tonight, the Moose are visiting the Peoria Rivermen for the first of two away games against the club this season. In 2008-09, the Moose swept their four-game set against the Rivermen, bringing their all-time record against the St. Louis Blues affiliate to 11-5-0-0 (6-2-0-0 at the Carver Arena). Mike Keane led all Moose skaters with six points against the Rivermen last season while Cory Schneider earned a shutout against the club in 2008-09. After tonight’s game, the Moose will be back in Peoria next Friday to close-out their road series against the club this campaign.

Thriving in the Third:

For the first time this season, the Moose won a game when trailling after the second period. Down 1-0 after 40 minutes of play on Wednesday, the Moose managed to score two goals in the final frame to take the game. The Moose are now 1-8-1-0 when trailing after the second period and a perfect 5-0-0-0 when carrying a lead into the third. 

Rapid Fire:

Matt Pettinger scored two goals in the third period on Wednesday night in a matter of 42 seconds -- the fastest two goals the Moose have scored so far this season. His first was scored at 8:01 of the third and his second of the night, also the game-winner, was recorded at 8:43 of the same period. Manitoba’s fastest-ever two goals for happened within seven seconds of each other against Omaha in the first period on February 14, 2007 (Jason Jaffray, 0:43 and Lee Goren, 0:50).

One More for the PP:

The Moose earned powerplay markers in consecutive games after Matt Pettinger potted one in the third period on Wednesday night. They had scored powerplay goals in six consecutive games earlier this season and have also gone eight games without a powerplay goal. So far this season the Moose have scored 12 powerplay markers on 108 opportunities. They sit 28th, out of 29 teams, on the league leader board at 11.1 percent.

Moving On Up:

After taking two points in Wednesday night’s contest, the Manitoba Moose moved up to second in the North Division with 27 points. The Rochester Americans lead the division with 31 points and have only suffered two regulation losses so far in their 18 games played. The Moose are mid-way through their three-game road set with the West -- a division they hold a 5-4-1-0 record against so far this season. 

Players To Watch

Happy Homecoming:

In his first game back with the Moose after being reassigned by the Canucks on November 21, Matt Pettinger made an instant impacting scoring two goals on Wednesday night for the Manitoba club. Both goals, the only two for the Moose that night, carried the club to a 2-1 victory over the Rockford IceHogs. The Edmonton, Alberta native scored both goals in the third period, one on the powerplay. In eight games with the Moose this season he has earned six points (4g, 2a) along with eight penalty minutes. 

Dan's Debut:

Dan Sexton played in his first AHL game on Wednesday night with the Moose and earned his first AHL point. In the third period, Sexton earned a helper on Manitoba’s opening goal. The Apple Valley, Minnesota native started his season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL where he played in 18 games and earned 26 points (13g, 13a) along with 14 penalty minutes. 

Big Save Schneider:

On Wednesday night, Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider set aside 39 of 40 shots in a 2-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs. In doing so, he earned his 10th win this season. In 14 games with the club, he has accumulated a 10-4-0 record, 2.31 GAA and 0.917 save percentage.
