Match Up
Moose vs. Bulldogs:
Saturday night, the Manitoba Moose and Hamilton Bulldogs face off to close out their first double-header at MTS Centre this season. So far Manitoba holds a 2-1-0-0 record against Hamilton and earned a 5-3 victory over the visiting club last night. Historically the Moose are 26-36-2-5 against the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate (17-13-0-3 with home ice advantage). Sergei Shirokov leads all Moose skaters with four points (2g, 2a) against the Bulldogs while Cory Schneider has started in all three games against the Ontario club so far this season.
Two-for-Two:
In the third period last night, the Moose fired a season-low two shots on net -- both courtesy of Captain Mike Keane. Despite the lack of chances, Keane capitalized on both attempts to score two empty net goals. Before last night the season-low shot mark for 20 minutes of play at home was four and it occurred twice.
Power Shortage Continues:
In their past eight matches the Moose have failed to score a single powerplay marker on 32 opportunities. The last time the club notched a powerplay goal was on October 30 when they went 1-for-7 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (2-1SOW). Manitoba has dropped to 28th, out of 29 teams, on the powerplay leaderboard -- capitalizing 10.5 percent of the time (10 goals on 95 opportunites).
Outshot, But On Top:
The Moose were outshot 38-20 in last night's game against Hamilton but still managed to win the game 5-3. So far this season, Manitoba is only 2-5-1-0 when being outshot and 8-3-1-0 when out firing their opponents. The only other time the Moose were outshot and won was also against Hamilton on October 19th when the 'Dogs lead in shots 32-18 but Manitoba won the game 2-1.
The Best for Last:
Both teams hustled until the final seconds of the game last night -- scoring four goals combined in the final two minutes. The club set a new season record for fastest two goals by both teams -- clocking in at 10 seconds (P.K. Subban, 19:19, 3rd period & Mike Keane, 19:29, 3rd period). The franchise record for two goals by both teams is set at seven seconds and occurred in 2002 (Bob Nordella, 5:50 & Pat Kavanaugh, 6:06 in 1st period vs. Chicago).
