ROAD WARRIORS: For the first time since Nov. 2/07 and second time this season, Manitoba recorded three straight road wins this past week, tying this season’s record for longest winning streak on the road. The winning streak ended in a 2-0 shutout Sunday afternoon at Chicago. Last season, Manitoba's longest road winning streak was four games and was accomplished three times. Manitoba’s current road record is 12-11-1-0 and the franchise record for longest road winning streak is six games and was accomplished twice (most recently Oct. 12 - Nov. 15/05).
BACK IN WHITE: After earning six of eight possible points on the road in Week 18, the Moose return home for four games this week. Manitoba's most-recent homestand was six games from Jan. 17 - Feb. 2/08, in which the club finished 2-3-0-1. The Moose are 14-9-1-2 at the MTS Centre so far this season, and the club's longest home winning streak stands at four games (Dec. 31/07 - Jan. 5/08). Last season, the Moose set the franchise standard for best home record (25-10-3-2) and most consecutive home wins (nine games, Feb.3 - Mar. 10/07).
THOUGHTS ON SHOTS: The Moose fired 29 fewer shots than their opponents in four games this past week, stretching their streak of being out-shot to six games. Despite registering fewer attempts in each contest, the Moose finished 3-2-0-1. On Feb. 8 at Milwaukee, the Moose made only 14 attempts, marking the club's lowest shot-count since Dec. 10/06 vs. Peoria when the club tied the franchise record with 12 shots on net in a 2-0 victory. The last time the Moose outshot their opponent was Jan. 25 vs. Syracuse (29-28, 3-1W). So far this season, the Moose are 16-11-0-2 (.586) when being outshot and 10-9-2-0 (.524) when leading the shot-count.
A PAIR IS PLENTY: Despite facing the majority of shots in six straight games, Manitoba goaltenders have allowed no more than two goals in the past nine contests. The last time an opponent lit the Moose lamp more than twice was Jan. 17 vs. Peoria (4-2L). Since that game, the Moose have earned a 5-3-0-1 record by scoring 18 total goals and allowing 15, including a shootout goal on Feb. 1 vs. Hamilton. In the last 10 games, both Moose goaltenders have posted exceptional numbers, with Drew MacIntyre earning a 1.42 GAA and .943 SV% in seven games, and Cory Schneider tallying a 1.64 GAA and .940 SV% in three games.

The Manitoba Moose tied this season's record for longest road winning streak with three straight wins at West Division teams this past week. The club's lone loss came Sunday afternoon at Chicago.

Starting with Daniel Rahimi's game-opening goal (the first of his AHL career), the Moose scored three in the first two periods and held on for a 4-1 win over the Rivermen in Peoria Tuesday night. Thursday, February 7, 2008: Manitoba 3 - Rockford 2 OTW
Though the Moose managed an early 2-0 lead, the Rockford IceHogs battled back to force overtime Thursday night. Just under four minutes into four-on-four, Brad Moran surged into the IceHogs zone on a partial breakaway and beat former teammate Wade Flaherty to secure a 3-2 overtime win for the visiting Moose. Friday, February 8, 2008: Manitoba 3 - Milwaukee 2 W
Although Manitoba surrendered the first and last goals of the game, the Moose would finish one ahead of Milwaukee Friday night to register their third consecutive win. Colby Genoway, Jannik Hansen, and Shaun Heshka scored for Manitoba, while rookie goaltender Cory Schneider made 26 saves for his eighth win of the season and first star honours. Sunday, February 10, 2008: Manitoba 0 - Chicago 2 L
The Moose were looking for their fourth straight road win Sunday afternoon, but the Chicago Wolves and their goaltender Robert Gherson had something else in mind. By stopping all 19 Moose attempts, Gherson backstopped his club to a 2-0 victory and sent the Moose home with six of eight possible points on the road trip. ( view game recap / highlights)
This week, the Moose return home to host the Iowa Stars Tuesday and Wednesday nights, followed by the Toronto Marlies Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
 Tuesday and Wednesday night, the Moose host the Stars for the third and fourth games between both clubs this season. The Stars dealt the Moose their first shutout loss of 07-08 Nov. 30/07 (4-0), but the Moose bounced back with a 4-3 win five days later on Dec. 4. Manitoba now has an all-time record of 7-3-0-0 vs. Iowa, while the club is undefeated in four all-time games played vs. the Stars at the MTS Centre. Toby Petersen leads all Stars skaters with 17 goals and 42 points, while Tobias Stephan is the club's top goaltender with an 18-17-2 record, 2.52 GAA, and .910 SV%.
 Manitoba hosts Toronto Saturday night and Sunday afternoon this week. The Marlies took Game 1 of this eight-game North Division season series on Oct. 20/07, delivering Manitoba only their second regulation-time loss in two seasons vs. Toronto and dropping the all-time Moose record to 13-2-1-1 vs. the Marlies. Last season, Manitoba had a near-perfect 7-1-0-0 record vs. Toronto (including 3-1-0-0 at the MTS Centre), pushing their all-time record to 13-1-1-1. Justin Pogge is the Marlies' best goaltender with a 18-4-4 record, 2.21 GAA, and .914 SV%, while David Ling tops their leaderboard with 10 goals and 38 points in 40 games.

 For the fifth time this season, Brad Moran has been nominated for the Moose Player of the Week… Moran appeared in all four games for the Moose this week and recorded two goals and three assists for five points… Moran's 11th goal of the season on Tuesday night was his first game-winner of the week at Peoria which snapped Manitoba's two-game slide and began a three-game winning streak... The next night, Moran's individual overtime effort led to his fourth game-winner of the year. He is now tied for 14th in the AHL in game-winning goals and is second on the Moose in that category... Moran's five points on the week means he leads the team in scoring with 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points... He also finished the week with nine shots on net and was +2. |
