HO-HUM HOMESTAND: Saturday night's 3-2 overtime win vs. Hamilton concluded a six-game homestand for Manitoba, the club's longest of the season. Manitoba went 2-3-0-1 in the homestand, dropping two games to Houston Dec. 7 & 8, and then splitting series vs. Lake Erie Dec. 14 & 15 and Hamilton Dec. 21 & 22. Both Moose wins came in extra time, the first coming on Dec. 15/07 vs. Lake Erie (2-1 SOW). Manitoba’s home record now sits at 8-6-1-1 (.563), compared to 8-4-1-0 (.654) on the road. Last season, the Moose went 25-10-3-2 (.688) at home, setting a new franchise record for most home wins in a single season.
CLICKING IN CLOSE CONTESTS: So far this season, close contests and one-goal games have brought the best out of the Manitoba Moose. In 15 games when tied after the first or second periods, Manitoba is undefeated in regulation time with a 12-0-2-1 record. As proven by the club’s 10-3-2-1 record in one-goal games, Manitoba players have also excelled in the third period, with Moose skaters posting their best scoring percentage (13.8%) and goaltenders stopping more opponent chances (92%) in the final 20 minutes of regulation time.
SPREADING THE LOVE: Led by Zack FitzGerald, who posted his first professional goal-scoring streak with two goals in two games vs. Hamilton, defencemen and call-ups provided 80% of Moose scoring in Week 11. FitzGerald, Nathan McIver, and Milan Gajic scored goals for Manitoba, complementing Colby Genoway's first-period marker on Friday night. Defencemen Jimmy Sharrow, Shaun Heshka, and Maxime Fortunus also earned helpers this past week, with Fortunus joining Ryan Shannon as players who posted assists in their first few games back from the injured list. Greg Classen and Alexandre Bolduc also tallied assists in Week 11.
