SHOOTOUT SUCCESS: After 60 minutes of regulation and five minutes of overtime, the Moose and Lake Erie Monsters headed to a shootout Saturday night. By scoring three goals vs. Lake Erie's one through five rounds, Manitoba secured their third shootout win in four tries this season. Manitoba's lone shootout loss came in Week 9, when the Moose dropped a 2-1 decision to Houston on Dec. 7/07. Including two overtime losses to Grand Rapids (Oct. 13, 4-3) and Lake Erie (Nov. 24, 5-4), this season’s Moose squad now has three wins and three losses in games decided in extra time. Last season, the Moose posted an extra-time record of seven wins and 12 losses, including four shootout wins and five shootout losses.
A PK POWERHOUSE: The Lake Erie Monsters went 0-for-7 on the powerplay in two games vs. the Moose in Week 10, improving Manitoba’s home penalty-killing to 93.1% (1st in the AHL) and the club’s overall PK% to 84.2% (13th). Houston’s powerplay goal on Dec. 8/07 was Manitoba’s only powerplay goal against in the past six home games. While the Moose have allowed only five PPGs on 72 opponent man-advantages at the MTS Centre this season, the club has allowed 18 goals on 74 opportunities on the road, putting them 26th of 29 AHL teams in road penalty killing. Last season, the Moose led the entire league by stifling 89.7% of opponent powerplays.
PENALTY SHOT POINTS TO PONDER: For the first time since Nov. 17/05 vs. Houston, the Moose defended a penalty shot Saturday night at the MTS Centre. The second period attempt by Lake Erie's David Jones was stopped by Moose netminder Cory Schneider, meaning the last time an opposing team scored on a penalty shot was Apr. 4/04 vs. the St. John's Maple Leafs (Harold Druken, 5-5 T). The Moose have scored on three consecutive penalty shots, including Jimmy Roy's most recent attempt on Feb. 3/06 vs. Iowa. Over 12 IHL and AHL seasons, the Moose have scored seven goals on 12 penalty shots (58%), while opposing teams have scored five goals on 13 opportunities (39%).

The Moose hosted their newest divisional opponent, the Lake Erie Monsters, for two games in Week 10, dropping the first contest 4-1 on Friday night and rebounding with a 2-1 shootout victory Saturday night.

The Monsters scored four unanswered goals in the first and second periods en-route to defeating the Moose 4-1 at the MTS Centre Friday night. A total of four goaltenders made appearances in the game, including Monsters reliever Mike Wall, who stopped 28 of 29 shots for the win and first-star honours. ( view game recap / highlights)

After falling to the Monsters 4-1 Friday night, the Moose were looking to stop a three-game skid and rebound with a win Saturday night at the MTS Centre. Although the club took an early one-goal lead, Manitoba would require three full periods, overtime, and five rounds of shootout to complete their quest and earn two points in the North Division standings. Rookie goaltender Cory Schneider made 14 saves for his fourth win of the season, while Colby Genoway scored the game’s opening goal as well as a shootout goal. ( view game recap / highlights)
This week, Manitoba closes out their six-game pre-holiday homestand with a two-game series vs. Hamilton on Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday night is Moose Scarf Giveaway night, with the first 1,500 fans in attendance receiving a limited-edition Moose scarf.
 This week, Manitoba hosts Hamilton Friday and Saturday nights. The Moose are 1-0-0-0 vs. the Bulldogs so far this season, having earned their eighth win in 28 games played at Copps Coliseum on Oct. 21/07 (5-1 W). The win improved Manitoba’s record to 19-28-2-4 vs. Hamilton (4-2-0-2 last season), while the Moose have a 13-9-0-2 record when hosting the Bulldogs. Sergei Kostitsyn, Corey Locke, and Matt D'Agostini top the Bulldogs leaderboard, while Jaroslav Halak and Yann Danis have split netminding duties this season. Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins is also on the current Bulldogs roster, having played two games with the club.

 Morden, MB native Colby Genoway is nominated for the second time this season as Moose player of the week… This past week, he scored his eighth goal of the season and added an assist and scored a shootout goal in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win... Genoway now has eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points to tie Brad Moran for the lead the Moose in scoring... Genoway is now four-for-six in shootout scoring this season and leads the Moose with seven powerplay goals which is third-most in the entire AHL... He now has 11 points (3G, 8A) in his last 12 games... |
