Moose snap winless streak: The Manitoba Moose ended their longest winless streak of the season on Saturday night with a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Wolves. The five-game winless stretch began with a 5-2 loss to the San Antonio Rampage back on Jan. 19/07 at the MTS Centre. The team's previous longest winless drought this season was four games, which they endured on two separate occasions, most recently between Dec. 2/06 and Dec. 6/06 when the Moose went 0-4-0-0 before ending that winless streak with a 4-1 victory over the Peoria Rivermen at the MTS Centre on Dec. 8/06.
Nothin’ in net:
With Alexander Edler’s second period goal Friday night, the Moose snapped a goal-less drought of 171:00 that extended back three games. The last time the Moose had scored was Jan. 24/07 at Wilkes-Barre when Prestin Ryan scored Manitoba’s final goal en-route to a 4-2 loss. The Moose were then shut-out in two consecutive games (1-0 @ SYR Jan. 26/07; 3-0 @ HAM Jan. 27/07), and played 31:28 into Friday night’s game before posting a point. In total, the Moose went 171:02 without scoring, the team’s longest goal-less drought since joining the AHL. In 2003-04, Manitoba also suffered two shutouts in a row, for a total of 144:53 goal-less minutes over four games.
Oh no, it’s OT: Friday night’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Chicago Wolves marked the 13th time the Moose have gone to extra time this season and the 11th time they have failed to come away with two points. In 49 games this season, the Moose have two overtime wins, seven overtime losses, and four shoot-out losses. The last time the Moose won a game in extra time was Dec. 20/07 vs. Hamilton when the team won 2-1 in overtime. Last season, Manitoba won three out of 10 games decided in overtime and four out of nine games decided in a shootout en-route to a 44-24-7-5 record. The Moose currently have the lowest overtime conversion in the league at 57.7%, collecting 15 points from their 13 OT games. The Philadelphia Phantoms have the second lowest at 61.1% (11 points from 9 OT games).
We're number one!: The Manitoba Moose currently have the league's best penalty-kill, passing the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to take over the top spot in the AHL. The Moose have only allowed 31 powerplay goals against this season in 275 times shorthanded for an overall percentage of 88.7%.

The Manitoba Moose earned three of a possible four points from their two-game set with the Chicago Wolves this past weekend, ending their season-long five-game winless streak in the process. The Moose gained one point in the standings in a 3-2 loss on Friday as they fell in overtime to extend their winless streak to five games. However, the team came out with more intensity for the rematch on Saturday as they battled back to tie the game on two occassions before scoring the game-winner with 2:47 left in the game. The victory snapped their winless streak and improved their record versus Chicago to 2-0-1-0 on the season. The Moose still sit third in the North Division standings, two points behind the second place Hamilton Bulldogs with a 23-16-7-4 record.
Friday, February 2, 2007:
Friday's game saw both teams without one of their best scorers as Chicago's Darren Haydar was called up earlier in the day, and Manitoba's Jason Jaffray was at the side of his overdue pregnant wife. The Moose battled hard all game, even taking the lead twice, but the league's leading goal scorer, Brett Sterling, notched his 40th goal of the season to send the game into overtime. Referee Jeff Smith called two penalties late in the overtime session, which left the teams skating 3-on-3 to end the game. The Wolves made the most of the extra skating room as they stole the victory, scoring with just :14 left in overtime. The loss extended the Moose's winless streak to five games (0-3-2-0) and moved their record in overtime games to 2 W - 7 OTL - 4 SOL. ( view game recap / highlights)
Saturday, February 3, 2007:
Proud new father, Jason Jaffray, returned to the Moose lineup, and his impact was evident as he bolstered the team's scoring attack. Prestin Ryan scored the first powerplay marker for the Moose in six games as he tipped in a shot from Alex Edler in front of the Wolves net to put the Moose on the board. Then the line of Jason Jaffray, Lee Goren, and Brad Moran rekindled their magic. The top three scorers for the Moose had struggled during the team's winless streak, collecting one assist between them in the five games. Saturday night they broke out of their slump, as the three players combined for seven points (2G + 5A) to lead the Moose charge. Trailing 3-2 in the third, Lee Goren cleaned up the garbage in front of the net to tie the game, and then with just 2:47 left in regulation, Yannick Tremblay blasted home the game-winner. The 4-3 victory over the Wolves improved the team's record versus the West Division to 8-3-3-0 this season.( view game recap / highlights)

The Manitoba Moose host their North Division rivals, the Syracuse Crunch at the MTS Centre on Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th at the MTS Centre. The Moose hold a record of 2-0-2-0 versus the Crunch this season, with all four games being decided by one goal, two of them in overtime and one with :05 left in regulation. The close games can be traced back to last year’s Calder Cup Playoffs - where Manitoba battled back from an 0-2 series deficit to defeat the Crunch 4-2 in six games and advance to the second round. Five of the six games in that series were decided by a goal, three of them in overtime. Saturday's game versus the Crunch is Old Time Hockey Night as well as Minor Hockey Night at the MTS Centre. To celebrate old time hockey, the Moose will wear special throw back jerseys while the fans will be entertained by traditional organ music and heritage videos all night long! The highly anticipated debut of the 06-07 Manitoba Moose hockey cards will take place on Saturday night. 500 complete hockey card sets will be given out randomly to lucky fans during the game. The first 2000 fans will also receive an "Old School" collectible goalie mask cutout, and their will be great prize giveaways to fans who wear their minor hockey jerseys to the game. Fans who aren't lucky enough to receive full sets of hockey cards at the game, are welcome to come back throughout the season as hockey cards will be given out for the remainder of the team's home games for fans to collect. The Hockey Hall of Fame comes to town with an Old School Hockey display, including heritage jerseys, and in-game giveaway’s throughout the night. Plus, its the return of a Winnipeg hockey tradition as toasted hot dogs will be available on the MTS centre concourse.
