Week in Review

Moose vs Wilkes-Barre 10/27/06

MOOSE EARN THREE POINTS IN THREE GAMES

The Manitoba Moose had mixed results this week as they had one of their greatest come-from-behind victories, a shootout loss and a third period come-back against to earn three points in the standings during week 4 of the AHL season.

Tuesday night in Chicago, the Moose looked down and out going into the third period. Trailing 4-2 to the Wolves, the Moose mounted an unbelievable comeback with five unanswered goals in the third period to earn the 7-4 victory. Two of those goals came shorthanded for the Moose, their first shorthanded goals of the season. Jason Jaffray had a four-goal outburst in the win, including the second shorthanded goal.

The Moose then returned home for a two-game stand against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, looking to avenge their opening-day overtime loss to them at Wachovia Arena on October 4th. On Thursday night at MTS Centre, the Moose and Penguins needed a shootout to decide a winner. Unfortunately the Moose fell just short as Penguins forward Ryan Stone scored on the final shot for the visitors to steal the extra point in the standings. Friday night the Moose looked much more inspired and aggressive as the team took it to the Penguins physically. The Moose took a 3-1 lead into the third period but were unable to hang on as the Penguins battled back to earn a 4-3 victory. Lee Goren notched his first goal of the season for the Moose in the loss. One major positive for the Moose was that the line of Lee Goren, Jason Jaffray and rookie Jannik Hansen really started to gel together and with Brad Moran expected to return to the lineup soon from an eye injury, things are looking up for the Moose.

The Moose now start a four-game series with the Grand-Rapids Griffins on Friday and Saturday. The Moose will start the series with two on the road at Van Andel Arena before returning for two more games at home next Tuesday and Wednesday at the MTS Centre.

Upcoming Opponents

Grand-Rapids GriffinsThe Moose will start a four-game "home and home" series against the Grand-Rapids Griffins this Friday and Saturday. The rivalry will be renewed as the Moose are seeking revenge for their game-seven-playoff defeat at the hands of the Griffins last season. That series was particularily tough as all four of the losses in the North Division Final came by a one-goal differential. The Moose hold an overall record of 8-13-5-2 against Grand-Rapids since joining the AHL. Last season the Moose had a record of 3-1-1-3 versus the Griffins, with a 2-0-0-2 record at the Van Andel Arena.
