Moose Notes

Hansen gets his first: Rookie Jannik Hansen, the pride of Harlev, Denmark, scored the first goal of his professional career in Toronto on Saturday. Hansen took a cross-crease pass from Jesse Schultz to beat netminder Justin Pogge.

Moran hits 100: Moose forward Brad Moran scored the 100th goal of his AHL career on Friday vs the Hamilton Bulldogs. The goal was Moran's second of the season and second in a Manitoba Moose uniform. The first 98 goals of his career were scored as a member of the Syracuse Crunch. Moran has since gone on to finish the road trip with four goals and three assists to leave him as the league leader in points and goals after week one. Moran had spent the last few seasons playing in Europe before signing with Vancouver this season.

Moose continue dominance of Marlies: After starting the season with an overtime loss to Wilkes-Barre and then a regulation loss to Hamilton, the Moose took out their frustration on the Toronto Marlies. Manitoba improved on their impressive record against the Marlies as they defeated Toronto 5-2. That win moved the Moose's record versus the Marlies to 7-0-1-1 all-time, as they have earned at least a point from every game they have played against them.

Week in Review

Moose at Wilkes-Barre 10/04/06

MOOSE EARN THREE POINTS ON THEIR FOUR GAME ROAD TRIP

The Manitoba Moose opened the 2006-07 season on the road in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton versus the Penguins. The Moose tied the game late in the third period to send it into overtime only to lose in OT after giving up a penalty with less than two minutes left in the extra period. 3-2 was the final score as the Penguins were able to get the extra point in the standings. The Moose wrapped up their four game road trip with a three games in three nights stretch starting on Friday in Hamilton. The Moose were looking to improve on their dismal record at Copps Coliseum. The Moose trailed 4-3 with less than two minutes to play when the Bulldogs took a penalty to give Manitoba a great chance to tie the game. However, with the Moose net empty to give them a 6-on-4 advantage the Bulldogs scored a shorthanded empty-netter to seal the victory, 5-3. The second game of the "3 in 3" came in Toronto versus the Marlies, a team that the Moose have had success against in the past. Holding an overall 6-0-1-1 record vs the Marlies heading into the game the Moose were looking to earn their first win of the season. And win they did as the Moose special teams was the difference scoring four power play goals in 11 tries and going a perfect 7 for 7 on the penalty kill to earn the 5-2 victory, Scott Arniel's first as a head coach for the Moose. The Moose closed out their road trip in Rochester where they looked good for two-plus periods as they lead 3-2 early in the third. But the Americans stormed back with four unanswered goals to send the Moose home with a 1-2-1-0 record to start the season.

The Moose are back at the MTS Centre for their home-opener this Friday the 13th versus the Philadelphia Phantoms. The Moose will play their only two games of the week at home versus the Phantoms on Friday and Saturday before heading out on the road again.

Upcoming Opponents

Philadelphia PhantomsThe Moose will play their home-opener on Friday, October 13th, the start of back-to-back games against the Philadelphia Phantoms. The Moose have a perfect 4-and-0 record versus the Phantoms in the limited history between the two teams. The last time they met was in Philadelphia on January 27th, 2006 where Moose forward Ryan Bayda scored in overtime to give Manitoba the victory. The last time the Phantoms played at the MTS Centre the Moose shut them out 2-0 thanks to a 42 save performance from Wade Flaherty.
