This summer, minor hockey players have the chance to go back to school early and learn from some pretty cool teachers. Moose players Jason Jaffray, Nolan Baumgartner and Shaun Heshka will be instructors at the Manitoba Moose Hockey Camp, running from August 17-21, 2009 at River Heights Community Centre at 1370 Grosvenor Ave. This year is the camp’s fourth summer.
The co-ed camp gives minor hockey players from ages 6-14 a chance to spend a week with Moose players, picking up new skills and friendships at the same time. Players are grouped according to skill level. Each day will include two on-ice sessions, off-ice conditioning, hockey talk and a ball hockey session. There is also a charity hockey game on the Thursday night, and a Fun Friday for participants to show their parents what they’ve learned.
Start times range from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with end times between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., with younger players beginning and ending first, and older players beginning and ending later. Each day lasts approximately seven hours.
The camp costs $450.45, including GST and a jersey, with an optional hot lunch program for $55.
The Moose are partnering with Edge Hockey to provide the camp. Edge runs camps across Canada, teaming up with players such as Scott and Rob Niedermayer, Jason Strudwick, Craig Weller, and members of the WHL’s Kootenay Ice.
