The Manitoba Moose today announced they have signed forward Darryl Bootland to a professional tryout contract.

Bootland, 28, played in 14 games last season with the Moose. In that time, the Schomberg, ON native recorded nine points (5g & 4a) along with 42 penalty minutes. He finished the season with Salzburg EC in Austria where he appeared in 14 games for 12 points (4g & 8a) and 89 penalty minutes. So far this season, the right-winger has played in seven games with Kalamazoo of the ECHL, where he has accumulated eight points (3g & 5a) and 29 penalty minutes.

In his nine-year pro career, Bootland has played in 32 NHL games with Detroit and the New York Islanders where he’s scored three points (1g & 2a) and 85 penalty minutes. In 370 career AHL games with the Grand Rapids, Portland, Bridgeport and Manitoba, Bootland has 166 points (81g & 85a) and 1431 penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by the Avalanche in the eighth round, 252nd overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Joe's the man. We'll score more than 1 goal now!

Not to sound mean, but this is a desperate attempt. I hope he does the right thing and wants to score rather then fight, right now we do not need any more reasons to lose (ie.. penalties) The line is getting thin here and we so need something to break here, maybe this is a good thing, we are suffering early in the season, so maybe later on we can regain the respect we had last year to some degree. Go Moose! Section 119 is with you!!

Something else on this one, with all the guys being signed to a PTO, how about sitting some the guys who are doing jack all? (Funk, McIver) because some guys are not helping out, and since we are in desperation mode, lets just go all out and make wholesale changes, lets face it, it can't do any harm.

Grabner hurt. they said he was hurt in warm up but he twisted his ankle playing soccer. bolduc in vancouver as well as pettinger, bliznak and scheider. WE NEED OUR TEAM BACK! Gillis go make a trade and get some depth to replace sedin ect

Chris. Bootland is exactly what this team needs. He has the ability to put the puck in the net and is a specialist on throwing the opposing team off of their game. Will he fight? Of course. Have you have seen how this team allows their players to get beat on by the opposition? They can't afford injuries yet the opposing team knows that they can get away with anything. Bootland would never have let that hit from behind on Collins go without reprocussions. The fortunes of the Moose have changed for the better today.

Joe.. I never said he wasn't what we needed. My point is that these guys need to come together and they are not doing that. Have I seen? Of course I have season tickets(section 119) and although our guys get "beat on", whats the diff? it's putting the puck in the net that counts not taking penalties, which is the big problem right now.
One the dumbest things that ever happened was letting jaffs and Krog go, like i said joe, maybe some of these guys need to ride the pine,if your going to say Boots is exactly what we need, then maybe a few others need to sit. What can it hurt?

Dominic...Your right about the trade bit... You would think someone would pull the trigger now instead of waiting until it's too late.

Chris... Why you always so negative?? I dont think Ive ever seen you say something positive with your Comments. If you are a fan of the team... Which you claim to be, you should start looking on the positive side of things.
As for Bootland being back, Im SO excited. I think he should of been here ALL of last season and playoffs. When I saw him sign in the ECHL, I thought that was a step back for him, as he is an elite AHLer.

thegr8199...First of all, just because I'm "negative" as you put it doesn't mean I'm not a fan, a real fan see's both ways of the situation not a fan who poo poo's and says "maybe next game" I have a right to say what needs to be said just as you have a right to say what you say or anyone else for that matter. That's the problem with Winnipeg, no one wants to challenge anyone to get better, that's why the team is the way it is, no one stands up and wants to fight. So you r saying "which I claim to be" as a fan? Listen friend, I have had season tickets since 96/97 and talk to Scott Arniel quite frequently, he knows who I am. So if you basically do not like what i say, then don't respond to me.

Chris... Where in 119 do you sit because I also sit in that Section.

That's classified information. But we shouldn't be too hard to pick out.

Hey Chris and Dominic (you guys are super fans).........The Moose are playing with an east coast line-up right now. We been ABSOLUTELY GUTTED up front and our goalie who just happens to be the best goalie outside the NHL has been called up for a a couple of weeks. In order for us to win we have to play a PERFECT GAME. We just have to weather the storm for the next little bit until Sneids gets back here along with a Bulduc or Bliznac...........We will get better rest assured. We got the best coach outside the NHL in Scot Arniel who doesn't accept losing and a smart GM who will everything to bring in adequate replacements short term....WE have become the New York Yankees of the AHL (We've got lots fans.....have and an owner, Gm, and coach that will do anything to win......and challenge for the cup every year !!!!!! Speaking of the Yankees........The dream team sure flexed their muscles last night....Nice to see the Yanks win (Keaner won't take off his Sandels all winter now). .
