The Vancouver Canucks today announced they have recalled forward Sergei Shirokov from the Manitoba Moose.
Shirokov, 23, has played in 10 games so far this season for the Moose where he is the team’s leading scorer. The native of Moscow, Russia has scored 10 points (4g & 6a) in those 10 games which also leads all American Hockey League rookies in scoring. He began his Moose career with a four-game point streak from Oct. 9/09 vs. Chicago to Oct. 14/09 vs. Abbotsford. Shirokov has also appeared in three games with the Canucks so far this season. Last year, he played in 56 games with CSKA Moscow of the KHL where he recorded 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points, along with 36 penalty minutes. In 212 career games in Russia, the Moscow, Russia native has recorded 122 points (52-70-152) and 126 penalty minutes.
Shirokov was originally drafted by the Canucks in the sixth round, 163rd overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
