Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation Coordinator

Full-Time Position

Department
Community Partnerships

Reports & responsible to:
Director, Community Partnerships & Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation (“MMYF”).

Position Summary:

This position shall provide administrative and organizational support and service for the MMYF – particularly in the areas of fundraising events and donor/patron services. Furthermore this position shall be a member of True North’s Community Partnership department, providing broader support and service for the Manitoba Moose and the MTS Centre Community Partnership’s program, as required.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Organizational Administration:
  • Assist the Director with the development of a comprehensive annual operating and marketing plan for the MMYF;
  • Assist in Committee administration, including the preparation and distribution of approved meeting agenda’s, meeting minutes, communications, reports, etc.;
  • In cooperation with the finance/accounting team, facilitate all invoicing, bill-payments and entry of financial transactions;
  • Record and track annual MMYF funding requests, assisting in the process of summarizing recipient charity requests;
  • Assist in any development of YF marketing materials (i.e. brochure, thank you cards etc.);
  • Assist the Executive Director with the development & management of the MMYF web content;
  • Distribution and management of all Community Zone tickets and/or distribution of complimentary MTS Centre (non-Moose) tickets when required; and
  • Assist in distribution of grants, product or other gifting to recipient charities (MMYF).

Event & Fundraising Administration:
  • Under the direction of the Director, assist and/or manage the planning, promotion, implementation, and execution of the core MMYF fundraising events – currently including the gala dinner, golf tournament, beer festival and online auction;
  • Assist with the 50/50 Raffle Program for both Manitoba Moose and other designated MTS Centre events, while ensuring operational compliance with the governing agency the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission;
  • As directed, meet with existing and/or potential event sponsors to further fundraising activities;
  • Manage any additional fundraising programs (i.e. third-party events, Game Day Auctions);
  • Acquire autographed items of ongoing MTS Centre artists through the True North events department; and
  • Maintain the MMYF donor database, including entry of donations, issuing charitable tax receipts, and current mailing lists.

Participation with Community Partnerships area:
  • Assist in the development of tools to centralize the processing of donation and sponsorship requests;
  • As directed, facilitate any donation requests or declines for the hockey club and/or MTS Centre;
  • Assist in the development and execution of the new Community Corner program, which includes maintaining the tackboard on a regular basis; and
  • Participate and/or facilitate in Community Partnership initiatives or tasks as required.

Qualifications:
  • Above average organizational skills – and the ability to effectively manage conflicting and competing demands within tight timelines;
  • Effective use of PC based tools, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, media, sponsors, internal staff (including Moose players), donors, board members and partners;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Some experience with event coordination, planning and execution; and
  • Good contact base within the community.

Job-specific requirements:
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Valid class five driver’s license and access to vehicle (some local and provincial driving required).

Specific Objectives/Criteria for initial review period:
For 2008-09 operating year:
  • Maintain quality and results for existing fundraising events and assist with the development of new MMYF events (Beer Festival Ancillary event, YF Online Auction);
  • Assist in bringing organization structure to the Community Partnership area including: development of request tracking system and gift-in-kind packages, and Community Corner program.

Communications Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for maintenance, updating, and publication of all team and player-related statistics and profiles. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications & Hockey Operations, this position will assist in media relations and provide written communications support to the Hockey Operations and Sales & Marketing Departments, as required.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Write game stories, game previews, features, and other editorial for websites (Moosehockey.com & MTSCentre.ca), including information on Community Relations, the Yearling Foundation, and Fan Development programs and events.
  • Write running game commentary for each Moose game, home and away, and update website at the conclusion of each game.
  • Update all team data, including transactions, player information, and schedules.
  • Work with Director, Corporate Communication & Hockey Ops in the research and production of Moose Game Notes prior to each game, home and away.
  • Design and submit Game Day Line-up Card prior to each Moose home game.
  • Coordinate and write feature articles for Moosehockey.com, Canucks.com, and TheAHL.com “On The Beat,” including Ask-a-Moose player features.
  • Coordinate with Graphic Designer to produce Manitoba Moose Team Guide and Yearbook.
  • Maintain Moose and concert photo archives, including individual player action shot archives
  • Produce and proof press releases
  • Assist in media relations activities around games and practices.
  • Prepare training camp guide, playoff guide, and post-season communications strategy
  • Design & produce Moose weekly release
  • Respond to media inquiries and requests concerning action shots, etc.
  • Coordinate with Director, Ticket E-Business Operations and Web Developer for timely distribution of MTS Centre LiveWire and MooseMail email blasts, including Game and Exchange Restaurant Reminders
  • Coordinate, edit, publish, and distribute The Ticket, the True North staff newsletter.
  • Research and write sales/marketing editorial, as required.
  • Back up web content management.

Qualifications:
  • Proven written and communications skills along with diploma or degree in a relevant post secondary educational program (Creative Communications or Journalism).
  • Good interpersonal ability in working with other staff, management, suppliers, and media.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of hockey and hockey statistics.

Position Summary:

This position may perform a wide variety of duties (including but not limited to): All phases of public safety/security within the MTS Centre. To safeguard the facilities, assets, staff and patrons of MTS Centre.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Enforce regulations of establishment as set out in order to provide a secure environment for all employees, visitors and patrons. Help to ensure that we provide a superior patron experience.
  • Maintain order within the facility.
  • Maintain access control into venue and restricted areas, as set out by the event that is taking place. Assist in pat downs, bag searches and use of metal detectors.
  • Observe patrons and ensure guidelines set out by the MLCC’s “It’s Good Business” are being followed. Assist with identification of patrons for alcohol service, observe patron conduct and assess the condition of patrons.
  • Maintain and ensure all safety measures and emergency measures and procedures are adhered to.
  • Respond to alarms, disturbances, threats and all other emergencies as necessary.
  • Detect and prevent theft or destruction of company property.
  • Complete detailed reports of all incidents as required.
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time by Supervisors/ Management.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Take personal responsibility for facility security and safety; assume other areas of responsibility as required when other departments are not present (e.g. Housekeeping)

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or general education degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good working knowledge of crowd control requirements/training a definite asset
  • Background in conflict resolution, problem solving and customer service.
  • Experience in the security field at an entertainment facility is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping abilities.
  • Must possess sound judgment and be of solid character.
  • Must provide a clean criminal record check and child abuse registry check.
  • Holds or eligible to hold a Province of Manitoba Security license.
  • Holds or eligible to hold an It’s Good Business Server Card.
