Though the Manitoba Moose rallied from a two-goal deficit to force extra time, the Quad City Flames persisted through overtime and dominated the shootout with three straight goals to beat the Moose 3-2 Saturday night. Flames goaltender Curtis McElhinney stopped 33 shots for the victory, while Moose netminder Drew MacIntyre stopped 29 for his second shootout loss of the season.

First Period
Wearing commemorative blue Royal Canadian Air Force jerseys in honour of the 1948 Olympic gold medal-winning RCAF Flyers, the Manitoba Moose, backed by goaltender Drew MacIntyre, faced off against the Quad City Flames.
Though the Moose fired the game's first three shots on netminder Curtis McElhinney, the Flames overtook and maintained the shot lead, registering nine shots to Manitoba's six by the end of the first period. No penalties in the game's first 20 minutes helped keep the game scoreless heading into the second period.
Second Period
Just under three minutes into the middle frame, Quad City translated their shot lead into the first lead of the game. Striding up the left wing, centre Warren Peters squeezed the puck between MacIntyre's right shoulder and the goal post to put the Flames up 1-0.
Near the midway point of the game, the Moose had some good chances in the Flames zone but were unable to get one past McElhinney. When Quad City cleared their zone, Kris Chucko fired a slapper from the top of the far face-off circle just prior to going off on a line-change. The innocent-looking shot fooled MacIntyre and gave the Flames a 2-0 lead.
A minute after the goal, Quad City's Adam Pardy took the game's first penalty and the Moose went on the powerplay. Though Manitoba didn't hit the scoreboard on the man-advantage, an even-strength two-on-two produced the club's first goal. On the right wing, Jannik Hansen passed the puck to Jason Jaffray out front, who backhanded it into the Flames net to put the home team back within one.
After 40 minutes of play, the Moose were down 2-1 and trailed the shot-count 18-16.
Third Period
Four minutes into the third period, Alexandre Bolduc broke into the Flames zone and descended on McElhinney. Though Bolduc didn't score, he drew a penalty shot on the play and got another chance to try for the game-tying goal. Starting from centre ice, #49 skated in, swung across the crease, and tried to beat McElhinney from a sharp angle, but the puck slid parallel to the goal-line and the Moose stayed down by one.
With six minutes left on the clock, Moose rookie Luc Bourdon took a holding penalty and the Flames powerplay unit made its debut. But despite being down a man, Manitoba skaters Danny Groulx and Alexandre Bolduc brought play back into the Quad City zone. Though McElhinney stopped Groulx's original slapshot, Bolduc redirected the rebound into the net to score his second shorthanded goal in as many games and tie the game at two.
By the end of regulation time, the Moose had assumed a 33-26 shot lead and headed into overtime.
Overtime
A spectacular save by MacIntyre two minutes into four-on-four was the first of many exciting scoring chances at both ends of the ice. But finesse plays failed to result in a goal and the game proceeded to a shootout.
Shootout
Three periods and an extra five minutes of action came to a quick conclusion in the shootout, with the Flames scoring three straight goals to secure a 3-2 shootout victory Saturday night.
