Midway through a three-games-in-three-nights stretch that began with a 3-1 loss to Hamilton Thursday night, the Manitoba Moose scored three unanswered goals on the Lake Erie Monsters Friday night to complete a 3-1 come-from-behind victory. Moose captain Mike Keane scored his second goal in as many games, while Cory Schneider stopped 25 of 26 shots for his fifth professional win.

First Period

Making his first appearance in net since registering a 2-1 shootout victory over the Monsters on Dec. 15th, Cory Schneider manned the Moose net opposite 22-year-old Mike Wall.

Just over a minute in, Manitoba forwards Juraj Simek and Rick Rypien took consecutive penalties, offering Lake Erie the first powerplays of the game and a 45-second two-man advantage. But Moose penalty-killers stifled the Monsters powerplays and the game remained scoreless through the midway point of the period.

A center-ice collision between Manitoba's Aaron Slattengren and David Jones triggered a few retaliatory skirmishes, including a behind-the-net wrestling match between Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Mitch Love at the following whistle. In addition to the fighting and roughing penalties, Vladimir Denisov netted a tripping minor, giving the Moose their first powerplay of the game.

The man-advantage wouldn't last long, however, as the Monsters drew a goaltender interference penalty from Danny Groulx 20-seconds later and both teams played at even-strength.

Milan Gajic had Manitoba's best scoring chance with five minutes left in the first, but though the winger had Wall beat, he rang the puck off the far post and both teams continued to seek the opening goal after 20-minutes of play.

Second Period

2:45 into the second period, Stephen Margeson took a holding penalty and Manitoba headed on their second powerplay. Though the club couldn't beat Wall, the Moose assumed their first shot-lead on the man-advantage, tallying 17 shots to the Monsters' 13 by the eight minute mark.

Though the home team trailed in shots, Lake Erie's Chris Stewart made one count at the game's midway point. As the Monsters set themselves up in the Moose zone, Stewart found an open spot on Schneider's stick side and converted T.J. Hensick's pass into the first goal of the game.

Manitoba and Lake Erie traded powerplays through the latter half of the middle frame. The Monsters nearly extended their lead to two goals on their powerplay, but the puck avoided the Moose net and hit the crossbar and post instead, keeping the visitors within one after two.

Third Period

Back from intermission, the Moose wasted no time closing the gap. On the first shift of the third, Moose Captain Mike Keane posted his second goal in as many games, snapping the puck past Wall to tie the game at one.

As Manitoba broke the 30-shot mark, rookie Michael Grabner skated into the Lake Erie zone and fooled Wall with an innocent looking dump-in that found its way past the netminder's glove. With the goal, the Moose assumed their first lead of the game with 13 minutes left to play.

As the minutes ticked down, the Monsters pulled Wall and sent six skaters on the offensive. Alexandre Bolduc took advantage of the empty net and fired a long-shot into the unmanned mesh to secure a 3-1 win for Manitoba.
