The Moose suffered their 24th loss in 30 games at Copps Coliseum Thursday night, as Hamilton defeated Manitoba 3-1. Mike Keane scored Manitoba's lone goal, while Jaroslav Halak stopped 32 of 33 shots for his second win in three straight games vs. the Moose.

First Period

In the first hockey game for both clubs since the holiday break, Hamilton and Manitoba faced each other for the third consecutive game Thursday night.

An early high-sticking penalty to Manitoba captain Mike Keane gave Hamilton the first powerplay of the game, but the Moose allowed only one shot on Drew MacIntyre during the two-minute man-advantage. Near the five-minute mark, Manitoba countered with their own powerplay but were also unable to post the game's opening goal.

Though both teams couldn't score on their man-advantages, Hamilton broke their goose-egg seven minutes later. An aggressive cluster of Moose and Bulldogs caused confusion in MacIntyre's crease and resulted Ryan Russell's first of the season at 12:31.

A scuffle near Jaroslav Halak's net at the opposite end of the ice brought Manitoba to the 15-shot mark, but the Moose were unable to score the equalizer and headed to the first intermission down 1-0.

Second Period

Less than a minute into the second period, Keane tied things up for Manitoba, ensuring his game-leading fourth shot slipped past Halak to put the Moose on the scoreboard.

Exciting scoring chances by Manitoba's Juraj Simek and then Hamilton's Daniel Corso highlighted the middle part of the middle frame, but Halak and MacIntyre kept the game tied at one.

With seven minutes left on the clock, the Bulldogs positioned themselves in the Moose zone and tested MacIntyre and Moose defenders. Though the Moose netminder stopped an initial shot, Mathieu Aubin redirected the rebound from a sharp angle, renewing Hamilton's one-goal lead.

Tempers flared following the goal, and the Bulldogs netted their second powerplay of the game. Just over a minute into the man-advantage, Hamilton extended their lead to two goals with Mathieu Biron's first of the season.

The Bulldogs held on through the final minutes of the frame, and though the Moose led the shot-count 23-18, the visitors trailed Hamilton 3-1 after 40-minute of play.

Third Period

The Moose benefited from their third and fourth powerplays of the game early in the third, resulting in a five-on-three for 1:20. Manitoba drew another penalty to extend their powerplay, but the man-advantages failed to result in a second Moose goal and the club remained down 3-1.

A fourth powerplay for Hamilton and a sixth for Manitoba carried both clubs into the final 10 minutes of the game. As the Moose broke the 30-shot mark, a pushing match broke out in the neutral zone resulting in roughing penalties to Zack FitzGerald and Jonathan Ferland.

With two minutes left in the game, Moose Head Coach Scott Arniel opted for the extra attacker and pulled MacIntyre from his net. Six skaters couldn't close the gap for Manitoba, however, and the Moose dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bulldogs Thursday night.
