The Milwaukee Admirals defeated the Manitoba Moose 2-1 at the MTS Centre Friday night. Playing in only his second game of the season, Maxime Daigneault earned the win and first-star honours for Milwaukee, while rookie Mason Raymond scored the lone Moose goal. Both teams meet again Saturday night.

First Period

Hoping to continue the six-goal scoring surge they started last Friday night in Milwaukee, the Moose benefited from the first powerplay of the game and forced Maxime Daigneault to make his first stop after two weeks out of the Admirals net.

Despite Manitoba's early 5-1 shot lead, the game's opening goal happened at the opposite end of the ice, with Milwaukee's Antti Pihlstrom flicking the puck past Cory Schneider during four-on-four play midway through the first.

After a fight between Zack FitzGerald and Kelsey Wilson, along with an extra hooking penalty to Milwaukee's Janne Niskala, Manitoba's powerplay received their second chance to shine. But steady netminding courtesy of Daigneault and a late interference penalty to Nathan McIver helped keep the home team within one after 20 minutes of play.

Second Period

By two minutes into the second, Milwaukee had matched Manitoba's eight shots, and both teams struggled for control of the game through the remainder of the second period. Staying solid in their zone through four Admirals powerplays, Schneider and Moose penalty killers resisted multiple Milwaukee rushes but were unable to tie things up after two periods.

Third Period

Five minutes into the third, Milwaukee extended their lead to two. After skating the puck into the Moose zone, Matt Ellison delivered a through-the-legs drop pass to Rich Peverley, who took Schneider by surprise and scored from the top of the circle.

Eager to close the gap, Moose snipers soon descended on Daigneault. Though Brad Moran's shot failed to make it through, rookie Mason Raymond gobbled up the rebound and redirected it past Daigneault's stick hand to score Manitoba's first goal of the game.

Unfortunately for the Moose and their hometown crowd, Manitoba's first goal would also be their last, and the Milwaukee Admirals held on for a 2-1 lead Friday night.
