Playing their fifth game in six days, the Manitoba Moose showed no signs of exhaustion as they soundly defeated the reigning Calder Cup champion Hamilton Bulldogs 5-1 Sunday afternoon. Colby Genoway and Pierre-Cedric Labrie posted a goal and assist each, while Drew MacIntyre stopped 33 of 34 shots for the win.

First Period

Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Brad Moran drew the game's first penalties in the first half of the opening period, giving Hamilton the opportunity to improve their powerplay, ranked 17th in the league.

The Moose countered with their own man-advantage -- and then 28-second two-man advantage -- with just over nine minutes left on the clock. As the seconds ticked down on the five-on-three, Colby Genoway extended his goal-scoring streak to four games with the first goal of the game.

Earning an assist on the play, rookie forward Labrie was eager to match his two-point performance in Saturday's game. Although Halak managed to stop one of Labrie's shots near the seven-minute mark, a second powerplay shot and cross-bar rebound gave Labrie his second pro goal and the Moose a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Second Period

With back-to-back penalties, former Bulldog Danny Groulx triggered Hamilton's third and fourth powerplays of the game. Though MacIntyre managed to stop the first six shots of the period, Jonathan Ferland's powerplay attempt found its way through, putting the Bulldogs on the board and down by one.

Quick to recover their two-goal lead, even-strength Manitoba surged into the Hamilton zone, and Austrian product Michael Grabner defeated Halak for his second goal of the season.

Though Halak stifled Jozef Balej with a stellar glove-hand save, the Moose continued to press and paved the way for Alexandre Bolduc's wrist-shot from the slot. Three-minutes later, Balej got payback for his stolen goal, rushing into the Bulldogs zone and netting his third of the season. With Balej's goal, the Moose took a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the third.

Third Period

Up four goals, four shots, and one man heading into the final period, Manitoba was unable to increase their lead on their fifth powerplay of the game. Desperate to gain some ground on the visiting Moose, the Bulldogs tested MacIntyre's mettle as the period progressed, tallying 11 shots in ten minutes of five-on-five hockey.

Tempers flared with under three minutes left in the game as Mike Brown scuffled with Janne Lahti near the Bulldogs net. But aggression wouldn't translate into extra goals for Hamilton, and Manitoba held on through a scoreless third period for the 5-1 win.
