Manitoba suffered their first loss versus Omaha this season and are now 1-3-0-1 on their current road trip. The Moose lead in the Western Conference is now down to a precarious one point over the very same Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights who lead the West Division. Manitoba now heads to Iowa for the final time this season on Friday night.

First Period

Drew MacIntyre and Curtis McElhinney get the starts in goal for their teams tonight.

Drew MacIntyre made the first good save of the game when Warren Peters stormed down the right wing boards and fired a shot on goal. The rebound fell loose in the crease where several Knights tried to jam it over the line, but MacIntyre sprawled across the goal line to keep the puck out.

Alex Edler took the first penalty of the game when he was called for boarding at 5:54 of the period. The Moose did a great job on the penalty-kill barely allowing the Knights to gain the zone.

Unfortunately for the Moose they gave up a goal shortly after the penalty expired when Cam Cunning redirected a shot by David Van der Gulik past Drew MacIntyre to give Omaha the 1-0 first period lead. The goal came at 8:04 of opening period with Cam Cunning and Brett Skinner drawing the assists.

Nathan McIver and Derek Couture dropped the gloves after colliding in the Moose corner. Both players landed some wild glancing blows but McIver earned the decision by landing one solid uppercut. Both players received 5:00 for fighting on the play.

Mike Brown hammered Knight's forward Dustin Boyd near the Omaha bench sending him crashing into the boards. It was a clean shoulder-to-shoulder hit but Boyd lost his balance and took a few seconds to shake out the cob-webs.

The newly formed line of Nathan Smith, Lee Goren and Jesse Schultz wreaked havoc in the Knights zone for an entire shift close to the end of the period, leading to a hooking penalty by Kris Chucko in front of the Omaha net.

The Moose would make the most of their first chance with the man-advantage as Brad Moran scored his first goal in nine games with just 0:59.2 left in the first period to tie the game at one goal apiece. Yannick Tremblay and Prestin Ryan drew the assists on the goal.

The Moose started the period slowly but found their legs late to get themselves back in the game.

Second Period

Yannick Tremblay took the first penalty of the second period, an interference penalty at 5:26 of the period.

The Knights had possession in the Moose zone for almost the entire 2:00 and had MacIntyre flopping, rolling and sprawling all over his crease, however the Moose were able to hold on and kill off the powerplay.

Shortly after killing off the first penalty, Maxime Fortunus took the second when he was called for tripping at 8:06. Once again the Knights had great pressure with the extra attacker but MacIntyre made several great saves to slam the door on the home side.

Adam Pardy and J.J. Hunter took coincidental minors at 14:48 leaving the teams to play 4-on-4 for 2:00.

The extra room on the ice didn't result in any extra chances for either team as the teams returned to full strength.

The Knights re-took the lead when Warren Peters spun and fired a wrist shot high between the face-off circles, the puck was redirected on its way to the goal by David Van der Gulik and past a helpless Drew MacIntyre. The goal came with just 1:50 left in the second period with Derek Couture drawing the second assist.

Andrei Taratukhin took holding penalty with just 0:17 left in the period to give the Moose an abbreviated powerplay. The Moose couldn't capitalize on the first few seconds of the powerplay which would see the remainder carry over to the final frame.

Third Period

Even though the Moose had the man-advantage to start the period, it was the Knights that had the best early chance. Tomi Maki and Dustin Boyd broke in 2-on-2 shorthanded where Maki fired a hard shot on net. Drew MacIntyre was way out of his crease to cut down the angle and the juicy rebound went straight to Dustin Boyd who misfired on the wide open net.

At 5:30 of the period Carsen Germyn and Lee Goren got into a swashbuckling duel with their sticks, and referee Conrad Hache would send both players to the box for slashing, putting the teams 4-on-4 for 2:00.

David Van der Gulik would get his second goal and third point of the night as the Knights would add to their lead. Tim Ramholt wristed a shot from the point that MacIntyre stopped but the rebound fell in the crease where Van der Gulik stuffed the puck under the Moose netminder for his 15th goal of the season.

The Moose were finally able to cut into the Omaha lead as the line of Goren, Jaffray and Moran did a fantastic job of cycling the puck in the Knights zone leading to the second goal of the game for the Moose. After controlling the puck down low in the Knights zone for several seconds the puck came loose to Dustin Wood who fired a snap-shot past Curtis McElhinney. Jason Jaffray and Brad Moran drew the assists on the goal at 16:07.

Scott Arniel called his timeout with 1:55 left in the game. The Moose then won the subsequent face-off allowing Drew MacIntyre to leave the net and give Manitoba the extra attacker.

The Moose poured on the pressure in the final moments of the game but could not get the game-tying goal, losing their first game of the year versus the Knights.

The Moose are now 1-3-0-1 on their current road trip and hold a slim one point lead over Omaha for the lead in the Western Conference. The team now heads to Iowa for the final time this season on Friday night.
