The Manitoba Moose clinched a playoff spot with their 42nd win of the season, a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. The win was the first on their current road trip and improves their record to 3-0-0-0 versus the Knights this season. The Moose stretched their lead in the Western Conference to three points as Chicago fell 2-1 in overtime to the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Moose travel to Iowa to take on the Stars tomorrow afternoon.

First Period

Drew MacIntyre is in goal for the Moose tonight while Brent Krahn starts in net for the Knights.

Coach Scott Arniel, tinkering with the lineup to try and jump-start the offence, broke up the line of Jaffray, Moran, and Goren choosing to move Jannik Hansen onto the top line and Moran to a different line.

MacIntyre made a couple of nice saves early as the Knights put some early pressure on in the Moose zone.

Then Maxime Fortunus took a hooking penalty at 2:25 to put the Moose on the penalty-kill for the first time.

Omaha would capitalize on the man-avantage to take the early 1-0 lead. Chris Lee wristed a shot on goal from the point where MacIntyre made the initial save, but Dustin Doyd gathered up the rebound in the crease and backhanded it past MacIntyre for his 26th goal of the season and second versus the Moose. That was the first powerplay goal of the year Omaha has scored against Manitoba.

Warren Peters took a hooking call for Omaha at 3:58 to give the Moose their first chance with the man-advantage. Unfortunately the team couldn't get their powerplay going and failed to score.

Brett Skinner took a hooking penalty at 12:36 to give the Moose their second powerplay of the game. This time the Moose would make them pay as Lee Goren would whack home his 24th of the season just 0:10 into the man-advantage. Shaun Heshka kept a clearing attempt in at the blueline with his face, gloved it down and fed Jason Jaffray. Jaffray put the puck towards the goal where Lee Goren finished it off to tie the game.

Then just 0:41 later Jesse Schultz scored for the first time since Feb. 23 in Rochester, a total of 16 games, to give the visiting Moose the 2-1 lead. Schultz stole the puck in the Knights' zone as they were trying to break out of their end. Schultz fired a shot on goal that was stopped, but then he put away his own rebound for his 18th goal of the year.

Brad Ference took a cross-checking penalty for laying the lumber on Jason Jaffray to give the Moose their third powerplay advantage.

David Van der Gulik got a shorthanded chance for the Knights where Maxime Fortunus hooked the Omaha winger to negate the remaining 1:21 of the Moose man-advantage.

Neither team could get much else going as the period would end with the Moose in front 2-1, trailing 14-11 to the Knights in shots on goal.

Second Period

The Moose poured on the pressure in the first half of the second frame as they forced Brent Krahn to make several good saves to keep Manitoba from extending their lead.

Brad Ference took the first penalty of the middle frame and his second of the game as the Knights defenceman was called for interference at 10:01.

Manitoba could not capitalize on their fourth powerplay of the game leaving them 1-for-4 with the extra attacker.

The Moose went to their fifth powerplay of the game when Andrei Taratukhin took a holding penalty at 16:36 of the period.

Manitoba came close to scoring as they put on some great pressure with the extra attacker. Both Nathan Smith and Jason Jaffray had a couple of chances in front of the Knights net, but couldn't get the puck past Brent Krahn.

The second period ended with no scoring, as the Moose still cling to their 2-1 lead, although the Moose stepped up the pressure in the middle frame taking the lead in shots 22-17.

Third Period

Jannik Hansen extended the Moose lead to two goals as he notched his 12th goal of the season just 0:20 into the final period. Jason Jaffray drew the lone assist on the goal

Shaun Heshka took an interference penalty at 1:56 of the period to give the Knights their third powerplay of the game.

Once again the home side would capitalize with the man-advantage as Chris Chucko scored his 13th goal of the year for Omaha. At the right side of the Moose goal Chucko fired a shot towards the goal that deflected off of Dustin Wood at the back-post and into the net. Omaha is now 2-for-3 with the extra attacker and are just one goal down in the game.

J.J. Hunter then took a tripping penalty to give the suddenly potent Knights powerplay another chance. Before the penalty was over Dustin Wood took another penalty for the Moose as he was nabbed for interference at 6:27 to give the Knights an abbreviated two-man advantage. MacIntyre made a couple of nice saves shorthanded to preserve the Moose lead and kill off both penalties.

Jason Jaffray had a couple of nice shots on Brent Krahn, but the Omaha netminder made a beautiful split save to keep his team within a goal.

Then Drew MacIntyre was called on to make a nice save as he stoned Warren Peters on a partial breakaway.

As the Knights tried to get themselves back in the game, they took a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct at 19:25 as coach Ryan McGill disagreed with a call at the Moose blueline.

That penalty sealed the Knights' fate as the Moose held on for their 42nd win of the season, clinching a playoff berth in the process.
