The Manitoba Moose winning streak came to an end at nine games as the Syracuse Crunch shutout the Moose 3-0. Tomas Popperle earned his second shutout of the season over the Moose as Manitoba suffered their first regulation loss in the month of February. The Moose finished the season with a record of 5-1-2-0 versus the Crunch. The Moose finish their road trip in Toronto tomorrow afternoon. That game will be televised on The Score starting at 3:00PM CDT.

First Period

Drew MacIntyre starts in goal for the Moose tonight while Tomas Popperle gets the starting nod for the Crunch.

Brendan Brooks also makes his first appearance in the Moose lineup tonight, after meeting the team late last night in Rochester.

The first 5:00 of the game went by quickly as both teams played tight defensively, staying true to the way this series has been played all season.

Olivier Labelle took the first penalty of the game, as he was called for hooking at 7:37 of the first.

The Moose powerplay went 2-for-5 last night in Rochester, but could not solve the Crunch penalty-kill on their first opportunity tonight.

Derrick Walser was called for hooking at 15:04 for the Crunch, to give the Moose their second powerplay chance of the game.

Smith, Hansen, and Schultz started the powerplay up front for the Moose while Coulombe and Edler manned the points. Once again the Moose could not capitalize on the man-advantage.

Jeffrey Szwez and Nathan McIver decided to square off at centre ice. Both players took off their helmets before grabbing on. This was a short tilt as Szwez caught McIver off balance hitting him with a hard shot that saw the Moose defencemen fall to the ice. The linesmen jumped in right away to break it up. Both players were given 5:00 fighting majors on the play.

A scrum developed with less than a minute to go in the first which saw the teams get coincidental minors. Lee Goren for interference and Joakim Lindstrom for roughing to create a little extra room on the ice, as the teams would skate 4-on-4 for 2:00.

The period came to an end with no goals to report, the third time this season that these teams played to a scorless first period at the War Memorial.

Second Period

Mike Keane took the first penalty of the game for the Moose early in the second as he was called for hooking.

The Crunch would make them pay as Filip Novak scored his fourth goal of the season to put the Moose in a 1-0 hole. The puck looked to be deflected on its way to the goal, which fooled Drew MacIntyre. Walser and Lindstrom drew the assists on the powerplay marker.

Marc Methot got called for holding Lee Goren at 3:54 of the second to give the Moose their third man-advantage. Even though the Moose controlled the puck in the Crunch zone for almost the entire 2:00 they could not get the puck past Tomas Popperle.

The Crunch extended their lead to two goals as Joakim Lindstrom fed a pass to Derrick Walser who beat Drew MacIntyre low to the stick-side. The goal came at 11:10 of the period. The Moose would now have their work ahead of them if they are to continue their winning ways.

Alex Bolduc was hammered into the boards from behind, Zenon Konopka was sent to the box for boarding at 15:24.

However Nathan Smith was called for high-sticking just seconds into the powerplay, cutting the Moose man-advantage short.

The 4-on-4 play opened up the chances as both goaltenders had to make some nice saves. Tomas Popperle continued to foil the Moose efforts as he made an especially nice save to rob Patrick Coulombe. Drew MacIntyre did his best to keep the Moose within striking distance as he stopped the Crunch on several good chances.

The second period came to an end with the Moose still searching for their first goal. Manitoba will need to battle back from a 2-0 hole if they hope to stretch their season long winning streak to 10 games. The teams are tied at 20 shots apiece after 40:00.

Third Period

The Moose got an early chance to cut into the Crunch lead as Jeffrey Szwez took a roughing penalty just 0:16 into the third.

The Moose did a great job of moving the puck around with the man-advantage but they still could not beat Popperle in the Crunch net. The Moose fall to 0-for-5 on the powerplay in the game.

Seconds later Lee Goren came close to scoring for the Moose but he cranked his shot off the cross bar streaking down the wing.

Then Popperle robbed Maxime Fortunus with a fantastic pad save sliding post to post. Genoway carried the puck across the Crunch bluline and fed a pass to Jesse Schultz. Schultz spotted Fortunus back-door and hit him with a terrific pass, but Popperle was up to the task as he came sliding across to rob the Moose defender.

The Crunch may have found the goal to break the camel's back as Darcy Verot dumped a shot in on the Moose goal that took a few bounces before eluding Drew MacIntyre. The fluky goal has the Moose in a deep 3-0 hole with just over 10:00 to play.

Manitoba could not solve the Crunch netminder despite their best efforts, as Tomas Popperle earned his second shutout of the season over the Moose, stopping all 29 shots fired at him. The loss snaps Manitoba's nine-game winning streak and marks their first regulation loss in the month of February.

Moose scratches: Prestin Ryan, J.J. Hunter, Brad Moran, Dustin Wood, Tyler Bouck
