The Moose came up with a gutsy effort tonight battling back for a 4-3 victory and ending their winless streak at five games. Lee Goren had two goals for the Moose while Yannick Tremblay had the game-winner as the team improved their record to 23-16-7-4 on the year and improved their record versus Chicago to 2-0-1-0.

First Period

Drew MacIntyre gets the starting call in net again tonight for the Moose, while Michael Garnett gets the start for the Wolves.

Drew MacIntyre made the first sparkling save of the night as he stoned Steve Martins with a quick glove hand, reaching back to rob a sure goal at the 4:06 mark of the first.

Just seconds later Garnett was tested for the first time as he came up big first against Jason Jaffray and then on the rebound, as he stopped Tommi Santala on the doorstep.

Patrick Coulombe took the first penalty of the game with 4:49 left in the first period, a 2:00 high-sticking minor.

Colin Stuart jumped on a loose puck just outside the Moose crease and roofed a shot over the shoulder of Drew MacIntyre to give the visiting Wolves the 1-0 lead. Kevin Doell and Nathan Oystrick assisted on the goal at 17:13 of the first. The goal came just :02 after the penalty had expired to Coulombe.

Lee Goren took a cross-checking penalty at the 18:13 mark of the period. The Moose were able to kill off the penalty to end the first frame. The Wolves lead 13-9 in shots through 20:00 and lead 1-0 on the scoreboard.

Second Period

A minor zamboni malfunction caused a delay between the first and second periods as the ice-makers worked to remedy the problem.

Wolves forward Jordan LaVallee picked off a pass at his own blueline and broke in on the Moose net, but Dustin Wood did a strong job of back-checking to come back and break up the play.

Wolves forward Guillaume Desbiens layed a late open ice hit on Moose forward Brad Moran, and no penalty was called. Mike Brown immediatley came to the defence of his team mate as he dropped the gloves with Desbiens. Brown got the better of Desbiens as he held on until the linesmen stepped in to break it up. Both players were given 5:00 for fighting on the play.

The Moose got their first powerplay opportunity of the game as Alex Bourret took a high-sticking minor.

The Moose scored their first powerplay goal in six games as Prestin Ryan tipped in a shot from Alex Edler at the point to tie the game at one goal apiece. Edler and Brandon Reid drew the assists on Ryan's fifth goal of the season.

At the 12:51 mark, Jason Jaffray did a super job of forechecking as he dug the puck out behind the Wolves net and fed a pass out front to a wide open Lee Goren who slapped a one-timer home for his 13th goal of the season, giving the Moose a 2-1 lead.

The Chicago Wolves tied the game at two at 19:42, when defenceman Mark Popovic calmly lifted a backhand over Drew MacIntyre who had come sliding across to try and stop the shot. Corey Larose carried the puck across the Moose blueline and fed a cross-ice pass to Popovic who finished off his seventh goal of the year.

Prestin Ryan tried to regain the momentum for the Moose as he dropped the gloves with Jordan LaVallee with :05.3 seconds left in the period. Both players landed some shots before the linsemen stepped in. Both players got 5:00 fighting penalties to close out the period.

Third Period

Jaffray put the Wolve's third best powerplay back in action as he took a hooking penalty at the 2:58 mark.

For the second time in the game the Moose killed off the penalty but surrendered a goal just after the man-advantage expired, as Jon Awe scored his first goal of the season for the Wolves on a blast from the point that beat MacIntyre clean to the stick side. Derek MacKenzie and Alex Bourret assisted on the go-ahead goal at 5:15 of the third.

Lee Goren scored his second goal of the game, as he cleaned up the garbage in front of the goal and deposited it in the back of the Wolves net. Jason Jaffray carried the puck across the Wolves line and then dropped the puck for Brad Moran who stepped into a slapper. Garnett could not handle it and the rebound fell to Goren who backhanded home the game-tying goal at 8:03 of the third.

Yannick Tremblay drifted a shot from the point that found the top corner of the net to put the Moose up 4-3 late in the third period. Jaffray and Goren assisted on Tremblays ninth goal of the season at 17:13.

Colby Genoway took a high-sticking penalty at the 18:15 mark to give the Wolves a great chance to tie the game.

MacIntyre came up big on the penalty kill as he made several acrobatic saves as the Wolves pulled their goalie to give them a 6-on-4 advantage to end the game. The Wolves threw everything they could at the net but they couldn't get the tying goal as the Moose held on for the 4-3 victory. The win snapped the Moose's five game winless streak and improved their record to 23-16-7-4 on the season.
