The Manitoba Moose scored two first period goals on route to a 4-2 win over the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs. Drew MacIntyre was impressive between the pipes stopping 23 of 25 shots fired his way. The Moose are now on a four-game winning streak and they will be looking to make it five in a row as these two teams face off once again tomorrow night, 7:30 PM at the MTS Centre.

First Period

The Manitoba Moose started their 21st home game off the right way as Brandon Reid scored his 11th goal of the season at 1:34 of the first period. With Hamilton's Mathieu Biron in the box for cross-checking, Jannik Hansen circled behind the net and fed Reid who snapped a wrist shot past Bulldogs netminder Jaroslav Halak. Nathan Smith also recorded an assist on the goal.

Manitoba took their first penalty of the game just over two minutes later as Maxime Fortunus was called for hooking. The Moose's top ranked powerplay unit held Hamilton to only one shot.

With Nathan Smith in the sin bin for hooking, captain Mike Keane forced a turnover deep in the Moose zone before feeding Prestin Ryan who was joined by Jason Jaffray for a 2 on 1. After faking the shot, Ryan slid the puck over to Jaffray who potted his 23rd goal of the season at 12:53. The goal was Manitoba's fifth shorthanded goal of the season.

The Moose had another powerplay opportunity with just over six minutes remaining in the period, but they were unable to capitalize with Mikhail Grabovski in the box for holding the stick.

Manitoba goaltender Drew MacIntyre stopped all 8 shots thrown his way, including a magnificent cross crease save on Andrei Kostitsyn. The Moose fired 9 shots at Hamilton's Jaroslav Halak.

The Moose were 1 for 3 on the powerplay, while the Bulldogs went 0 for 2.

Second Period

A quick paced start to the second saw both teams exchange good scoring opportunities, but both goalies were up to the challenge.

Nathan Smith tucked home his 9th goal of the season after Bulldogs goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped the initial point shot by Patrick Coulombe. Scored at 5:48 of the period, the goal put Manitoba in front by three goals. Jannik Hansen also picked up an assist on the goal.

Mike Brown took a high-sticking penalty at 7:10, but Manitoba's solid powerplay unit frustrated Hamilton once again. Drew MacIntyre had lady luck on his side though, as the 'Dogs missed two glorious opportunities to get themselves back into the game.

Tempers boiled over at 11:29 as Hamilton's Ryan O'Byrne took on Manitoba's Adam Keefe, with each player landing a few punches. O'Byrne and Keefe were both assessed five minute penalties.

With 1:30 to play in the period Lee Goren took a charging penalty, but Hamilton was once again unable to get anything going with the man advantage recording only one shot on MacIntyre.

Both teams had great scoring chances in a fast end-to-end period, but the goaltenders were steady between the pipes. The Moose recorded 13 shots, while the Bulldogs had 10.

Third Period

The Bulldogs came out hungry to start the final period moving the puck well in the first few minutes. Hamilton finally got on the board at 3:16 as a nice pass from Duncan Milroy allowed Michael Lambert to rifle home his 5th goal of the season from just over the Manitoba blueline. Ryan O'Byrne recorded his sixth assist of the season on the goal.

Good puck movement paid off for Manitoba with just under 8 minutes to play as Shaun Heshka blasted home his second goal of the season from Hamilton's blueline. The goal put the Moose up 4-1, and was unassisted.

With Alexandre Bolduc in the penalty box for hooking, Hamilton sniper Duncan Milroy brought Hamilton back to within two goals scoring his 17th goal of the season. After Drew MacIntyre made two nice saves in close, Milroy managed to sneak the puck past him with six minutes to play in the period.

That's as close as the visitors would get however as the Moose held on for the 4-2 victory. The win moves Manitoba into a tie for first place in the North Division standings with Rochester. The Bulldogs continue to struggle however, having only one win in their past seven games.

Both teams finished with 25 shots.

Moose scratches: Joe Rullier, J.J. Hunter, Dustin Wood, Tyler Bouck.

Bulldogs scratches: Matt D'Agostini, Maxim Lapierre, Danny Groulx, Mathieu Aubin.
