The Moose battled back from a 3-1 defecit to score four unanswered goals earning their 16th victory of the season along the way. Alex Edler had two goals for the Moose and Jesse Schultz continued his dominance of the Marlies with two points on the night. The Moose are now 2-0 this season at Ricoh Coliseum and earned three-of-four points on their two-game road trip to climb within three of second place Rochester. The Moose now return home to host the Syracuse Crunch in their final two games of 2006, Dec. 30/06 and Dec. 31/06.

First Period

The Marlies appeared to score very early on but referee Conrad Hache immediately waved off the goal as it was gloved into the net by Jeff Corey. The Marlies didn't make much of a fuss as it was fairly obvious to everyone in the arena.

Not long after, the Marlies got one for real. The Moose failed to clear the puck from their own zone as Chris Harrington kept the puck in at the Moose blueline. The puck worked its way around to the far boards where Jeff Corey fired a shot on goal from a bad angle. Drew MacIntyre made the save but the rebound fell right to Tyson Nash who was crashing the net, and he whacked home the loose puck to give the Marlies a 1-0 lead. Corey and Erik Westrum drew the assists on the goal at 6:12 of the first period.

At the midway point of the period Mike Brown for the Moose and Brad Brown for the Marlies squared off at centre ice. Both players removed their helmets and circled for a bit before latching on and throwing some big shots. This was a short scrap as both players landed some good punches but Mike Brown landed a solid shot to the head that sent both players falling to the ice.

The Marlies appeared to score once again as Erik Westrum buried a loose puck in the slot, but once again the referee deemed the puck was played ahead with a glove pass and waved off the goal. Jeff Corey was guilty of the quick hands once again as he tossed the puck out into the slot.

On a scrum next to the Marlies' goal, Adam Keefe and David Cloutier paired off and decided to tangle. Both players landed several good shots as this one went on for a long time. Keefe finished the tilt strong as he nailed Cloutier with a series of shots and fell on top of the Marlies' defenceman to end the fight.

With just :20 seconds left in the period Alex Edler wristed a shot from the point that eluded Marlies' goaltender J.F. Racine to tie the game for the Moose. Jannik Hansen appeared to tip the shot in front of the Marlies net, but officially the goal was credited to Edler.

However the Marlies responded immediately as they scored just :10 later to regain their one-goal lead. Jaime Sifers fired a point-shot through a crowd that found its way past Drew MacIntyre putting the Marlies up 2-1 after one period.

Second Period

Jesse Schultz just missed on a glorious opportunity to tie the game as he skated across the face of the Marlies' goal and outwaited J.F. Racine. Unfortunately Schultz fired the puck off the post with the Marlies' goalie down-and-out. Schultz has been a Marlies killer in the past, with nine goals and five assists versus the Marlie franchise in nine games played heading into tonight's game.

Wouldn't you know it, after the Moose failed to capitalize on the opportunity at one end the Marlies came right back and scored at the other end. Erik Westrum wristed a shot through a screen from just inside the Moose blueline, where Drew MacIntyre didn't even see it as he stood frozen looking for the puck. The goal put the Marlies up 3-1 at 5:47 of the second period.

Maxime Fortunus did a nice job of holding the puck in at the Marlies blueline and fed the puck down low into the corner. Jason Jaffray one-timed the Fortunus pass to Lee Goren who was set up in the slot, and #37 finished off the one-touch passing play by roofing the puck over the glove of J.F. Racine to cut the lead to one goal. Goren's ninth goal came at 11:29 of the period, with Jaffray and Fortunus drawing the assists.

After two periods of play the Moose trail the Marlies 22-14 in shots and 3-2 in goals.

Third Period

Jesse Schultz scored his eighth goal of the season, and his tenth in ten career games versus the Marlies to tie the game at 4:12 of the third. Nathan Smith carried the puck across the Marlie blueline before feeding a soft pass to Schultz in the slot, where he one-timed the puck home for the game-tying goal. Adam Keefe created a distraction for J.F. Racine as he crashed the net on the play.

The Moose started to turn up the heat from there, as they continued to bombard the Marlie net, but J,F, Racine stepped up with some nice saves on several opportunities to keep the game tied at three.

The Moose finally took their first lead of the game at 14:46 of the third. Lee Goren started the play down low in the Marlie zone with a strong forecheck, where the puck squirted loose to Brad Moran. Moran circled the Toronto goal and tried to tuck the puck in on the wrap-around. The rebound went across the crease where Jason Jaffray hammered home his team-leading 18th goal of the season to put the Moose up 4-3.

Colin Murphy took two minor penalties to give the Moose a 4:00 man-advantage at 15:18. The Moose would make them pay as Alex Edler scored his second goal of the night on a screened shot from the point at 16:42. Nathan Smith was parked on the doorstep giving Racine no chance to see the puck. Jesse Schultz and Jannik Hansen drew the assists on the powerplay insurance marker for the Moose.

The Moose battled back from a 3-1 deficit to score four unanswered goals and give the Moose their 16th victory of the season in the process.
