First Period
The game started slowly with neither team having a lot of opportunity in their opponents' zone. The Moose did have the early advantage in the shots however, but were unable to beat the AHL's goalie of the month Jaroslav Halak.
With Andrew Archer in the box for cross-checking, Dan Jancevski took a high-sticking minor to put the Moose on a two-man advantage.
The Moose worked the puck around nicely until it came down low to Brandon Reid in the left corner. Reid fed a back-door-cross-crease pass to Jannik Hansen who had a wide-open net but misfired and the puck went behind the Bulldogs goal. As Hansen went to try and retrieve the loose puck, Brandon Reid stepped out in front of his man and was called for interference, ending the Moose powerplay.
The first appeared to be a feeling out period for both teams, as neither side was able to beat the opposing goaltender. The game is tied with no score after one, as the Moose lead 9-5 in shots.
Second Period
Wade Flaherty had to take a minute to get his mask fixed, as Bulldogs' forward Corey Locke high-sticked the Manitoba goaltender while swinging at a deflected puck.
On the subsequent powerplay Alex Edler came close to scoring, as he teed-up a slapper from the point that cranked off the crossbar but stayed out.
Prestin Ryan fired a shot from the point that Jaroslav Halak was able to stop, but the rebound bounced around in the crease where Bulldogs defenceman Dan Jancevski accidentally knocked the puck into his own net as he was trying to clear it. Ryan, playing in his first goal since Dec. 03/06 due to an injury, was given credit for the goal. His second of the year put the Moose up 1-0 at 8:13 of the second period.
Mike Keane was assessed a late hooking call, but the Moose were able to kill off the majority of the penalty the remaining :21 seconds will carry over to the third period.
Prestin Ryan's unassisted goal held up for the home team, as the Moose lead 1-0 after two periods of play.
Third Period
Matt D'Agostini picked off a pass in the Moose zone and fired a shot on net where Kyle Chipchura took a few whacks at it before getting it past Wade Flaherty. The game-tying goal came at 8:56 of the third period.
Bulldogs defenceman Jean-Philippe Cote took a hooking penalty at 18:19 of the third period as Alexandre Bolduc bulled his way through two defenders before getting a good shot of on Jaroslav Halak.
Scott Arniel called his time-out to try and get the team organized and get the game-winner on the powerplay.
The Moose couldn't get the puck past Halak however, and after 60:00 the game remained tied at ones. For the second straight game the Moose would need extra time to decide who gets the extra point in the standings.
Overtime
Hamilton defenceman Jan Hejda took a tripping penalty at 3:01 to give the Moose the powerplay advantage for the remainder of OT.
The Moose controlled the puck for the remainder of the powerplay but had dificulty finding a clear shooting lane. Brandon Reid finally fired the puck on net and was rewarded, as he scored the game-winning goal with just :14 seconds left in overtime. Maxime Fortunus and Jason Jaffray assisted on Reid's ninth goal of the season. The victory moves the Moose into a tie for second place with 36 points.
Wade Flaherty looked sharp, bouncing back from the overtime loss on Sunday, as he stopped 27 of 28 shots enroute to his second star of the game selection.
