By Derek Jory

Hershey forward Kyle Wilson scored two goals, while Alexandre Giroux scored once and recorded two assists as the Bears beat the Moose 5-2. With the fourth ranked penalty kill, Hershey stifled Manitoba all game long as the Moose went 1 for 10 on the powerplay. Hershey wins the season series 3-0-1, as the Moose see their consecutive game point streak end at seven games. Manitoba falls to 6-5-2-1 on the road this season, and 10-9-3-2 overall, but they will have a chance to redeem themselves tomorrow afternoon as they finish up their four-game Eastern road trip in Philadelphia, game time is 4:05PM CDT.

First Period

The Moose attacked the Bears just :24 seconds into the game as Brad Moran scored his 11th goal of the season. Moran took a pass from Lee Goren at the left side of the net and burried it past Hershey netminder Frederic Cassivi, putting the Moose up 1-0.

Just over two minutes later, Kyle Wilson evened things up at 1-1 scoring his second goal of the season. With the Bears on the powerplay, Wade Flaherty made a nice save on Jamie Hunt but couldn't control the rebound as Wilson slid it into the empty net.

At 4:13 of the period, Manitoba got their first powerplay chance of the game, but Hershey's speedy left-winger Quintin Laing stole the puck and tucked it past Wade Flaherty, putting the Bears up 2-1. Hershey has shorthanded goals in six straight games, and now have a total of 11 this season.

With 3:43 remaining in the opening period, tempers began to flare as Nathan McIver and Louis Robitaille dropped the gloves. McIver ended the scrap landing a solid right on Robitaille, but Robitaille continued to talk trash as he was escorted to the sin bin. Both players were assessed five for fighting. This was an obvious carry over from the game on Wednesday when Prestin Ryan felt that Robitaille had attempted to gouge his eyes in a scrum.

Hershey's Timo Helbling took a holding penalty with 1:44 left in the first period giving the Moose a chance to even things up on the powerplay, but the Bears finished the period strong not allowing any shots.

Manitoba outshot Hershey 12-11, but trailed 2-1 on the scoresheet.

Second Period

Timo Helbling took another minor penalty to open the second period, giving the Moose their fourth powerplay of the game. Brandon Reid had Manitoba's best chance to score rifling a shot from the left side, but Frederic Cassivi made a nice save before smothering the puck.

With Brad Moran and Alexandre Giroux both in the penalty box, Manitoba and Hershey exchanged shots while playing some 4-on-4 hockey. Off a Hershey shot, Kevin Wilson took the rebound and circled in front of the Moose net lifting a shot over a sprawling Wade Flaherty to put the Bears up 3-1. Scored at 6:03, the goal was Wilson's second of the game and third of the season.

Jamie Hunt's boarding penalty at 11:48 gave the Moose their seventh powerplay of the game, but Manitoba's 17th ranked powerplay failed to convert once again as the Moose were unable to get a shot on Frederic Cassivi.

Adam Keefe tried to spark some life into the Moose with just under five minutes to play in the period, as he and Tyler Sloan rumbled in front of the Hershey net. Both landed some punches before being broken up by the linesmen. Five minute penalties were given to both, with Keefe getting an extra two minutes for roughing.

The Moose outshot Hershey 9-8, but were lucky to escape the period down only two goals as Hershey had numerous shorthanded opportunities.

Third Period

Manitoba opened the period with a jump in their step, drawing a penalty from Hershey captain Lawrence Nycholat just :42 seconds in. But the Bears' fourth ranked penalty kill shut the door on the Moose once again.

With Lee Goren already in the box for holding, Joe Rullier took a roughing penalty at 6:26 giving the Bears a 5-on-3 powerplay. Former Brandon Wheat King Eric Fehr made the Moose pay as he lasered a shot over Wade Flaherty's right shoulder to give the Bears a 4-1 lead. Alexandre Giroux and Timo Helbling recorded assists on Fehr's 11th goal of the season.

Refusing to roll over and play dead, the Moose cut the lead to 4-2 at 11:11, as Joe Rullier scored his second goal of the season on the powerplay. Dustin Wood and Brandon Reid drew assists on the goal.

With Wade Flaherty on the bench for the extra attacker, Alexandre Giroux iced the game for Hershey potting his 17th goal of the season into the empty net with only :39 seconds left to play.

Manitoba outshot Hershey 14-6 in the third period, finishing the game with 35 shots to Hershey's 25.

Moose scratches: Rick Rypien (called up), Alex Edler (called up), Tyler Bouck (called up).
