Dustin Wood picked an unbelievable time to score his first goal of the season, as with :07 left in overtime he pinched in from the point and chipped the puck in for the game-winner. The Moose earned their first ever victory over the Hershey Bears and get their four-game road trip off on the right skate. Manitoba improved their road record to 5-4-2-1 on the season with the win.

First Period

In front of a packed house at the Giant Center, the Moose and Bears played their third game of the season. This was the first trip for the Moose to Hershey in their franchise history.

Adam Keefe wasted little time to get back in the swing of things, so to speak, as he got into it with Timo Helbling on his first shift of the season for the Moose. Helbling tagged Keefe with a good shot that sent Keefe's helmet flying but neither player really got the upperhand before the linsemen jumped in. Keefe led the Moose last season in penalty minutes and quickly collected his first 5:00 of the year.

At 5:54 of the first period, Patrick Coulombe took a pass at the point walked in and fired home his first goal of the season for the Moose. Brandon Reid did a nice job of forechecking, tying up the puck behind the Bears net where Mike Keane came in and dug the puck out of Reid's legs. Keane then fed the puck to Coulombe at the point where he skated in about twenty feet and snapped a shot blocker side on a partially screened Maxime Daigneault. Reid and Keane drew the assists on Coulombe's first goal.

With Jason Jaffray in the box for roughing, Bears' winger Chad Wiseman fed a nice breakaway pass to Dave Steckal who split the Moose defense and skated in all alone on Drew MacIntyre. Steckel skating at full speed, deked MacIntyre with a nice backhand-to-forehand move, sliding the puck past the sprawling Moose goalie at 17:31. Lawrence Nycholat drew the second assist on the Hershey powerplay goal.

The Moose played a strong road period, to find themselves tied with the Calder Cup champs after one. Manitoba trail Hershey 8-9 in shots

Second Period

Prestin Ryan blasted a point shot that Maxime Daigneault was unable to control the rebound. Lee Goren pounced on that rebound and slapped the puck past the Hershey netminder to give the Moose a 2-1 lead. Ryan and Fortunus assisted on the goal at 3:19, Goren's fifth of the season.

Just over a minute later with Lawrence Nycholat serving an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Chris Bourque picked off a Moose pass and broke in on a shorthanded breakaway. Bourque came blazing in off the left wing boards and pulled a similar backhand-to-forehand move as the first Hershey goal with the same result. The shorthanded goal was the seventh shorty surrendered by the Moose this season.

Marc-Andre Bernier was given a 5:00 high-sticking major for cutting a Hershey player with his stick, giving the Bears their third powerplay of the game.

Mike Brown hammered Joey Tenute against the boards deep in the Moose zone, leaving the Hershey centre sprawled on the ice for some time. Lawrence Nycholat tried to get at Brown but Nathan McIver stepped in and the two started to exchange blows. The two players kept throwing punches until they fell to the ice and the linsemen jumped in.

Brown was assessed a 2:00 boarding penalty, which was counter-acted by an extra roughing penalty on Lawrence Nycholat who tried to get at Brown after the hit. Nycholat and McIver were both given 5:00 fighting majors on the play as well.

On the same Bernier penalty kill, a scrum developed behind the Moose net, where Prestin Ryan became insenced with Hershey winger Louis Robitaille and had to be restrained by the linesman. Both players were assessed 2:00 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, but Ryan could not be contained as he continued to go ballistic towards Robitaille in the penalty box. Referee Chris Brown finally slapped Ryan with a 10:00 misconduct penalty to try and calm the Moose defender down.

With Bernier still in the box for high-sticking, the Bears scored their second powerplay goal of the game. Patrick Coulombe had his feet taken out behind the Moose net but no penalty was called. The subsequent pass came out to Jamie Hunt in the slot and he fired the puck home over Drew MacIntyre's shoulder to give the Bears a 3-2 lead. Eric Fehr and Dave Steckel drew the assists on the go-ahead goal for the Bears.

Scott Arniel was absolutely furious about the non-call on Patrick Coulombe, and threw a water bottle on the ice in disgust. Referee Chris Brown assessed a 2:00 penalty to Arniel which was served by Brad Moran.

In one of the most spirited games of the season for the Moose they trail the Bears 3-2 after two periods even though they lead in shots 18-15.

Third Period

The Moose started the period on the powerplay as Chris Bourque's interference penalty carried over from the second period. Only :20 seconds into the third, Hershey defenceman Dean Arsene took a tripping penalty to put the Moose on a 5-on-3 man advantage.

Manitoba made the most of their opportunity as they worked the puck around well on the powerplay. At :51 Yannick Tremblay playing his first game since suffering a high ankle sprain earlier in the season blasted a rocket from the point that beat Daigneault to the glove side to tie the game for the visiting Moose. Patrick Coulombe and Lee Goren drew the assists on the game-tying powerplay marker.

With the Moose still on the powerplay Jannik Hansen one-timed a shot past Maxime Daigneault to give the Moose the lead, 4-3. Nathan Smith, parked behind the Hershey net fed a pass out to Jannik Hansen who was standing just outside the crease. Hansen went down on one knee to one-time the shot past Daigneault. The goal was Hansen's fourth of the season, assisted by Smith and Reid at 2:01 of the third.

The Bears battled back as Joey Tenute picked off a pass inside the Moose zone and fed a cross-ice pass that Alexandre Giroux one-timed just inside the left post to tie the game for the home squad.

Both goalies made some terrific saves to keep the game tied as the Moose and Bears remained tied after regulation play.

Overtime

Lee Goren did some strong work controlling the puck down low in the Hershey zone, causing Jeff Schultz to take a holding penalty on the Moose forward.

The Bears were able to kill off the penalty, thanks to some terrific saves from Maxime Daigneault.

Dustin Wood picked an unbelievable time to score his first goal of the season, as with :07 left in overtime he pinched in from the point and chipped the puck in for the game-winner. Maxime Fortunus fired a shot from the point that missed the net but bounced hard off the back boards and came out to the right side of the net where Wood pounced on the puck to steal the victory for Manitoba. Brad Moran drew the second assist on the goal which gave the Moose their first ever victory over the Hershey franchise.
