By Travis Kondratuk

Jason Jaffray wristed a shot from just inside the left face-off circle, that found its way through the legs of Ty Conklin with :05 left in the game to give the Moose a 1-0 road win. Jaffray finished one assist short of the Gordie Howe hat-trick as he also had a fight earlier in the game and finished as the games third star. Dany Sabourin earned the first shutout of the season for the Moose in the victory.

First Period

The Moose were awarded the first powerplay opportunity of the game just :51 into the first as Syracuse defenceman Ryan Caldwell took a hooking minor.

Syracuse captain Jamie Pushor took an interference penalty at 2:13 to give the Moose a brief 5-on-3 advantage. The Crunch did a good job of forcing the Moose to the perimter and not letting them get any quality shots on net.

J.J. Hunter took his first penalty as a member of the Moose, a tripping minor at 4:49 giving the Crunch their first man-advantage of the game.

The Crunch could not get much going on their powerplay as the Moose killed off the penalty to Hunter.

The first period went by quickly as few whistles and strong skating made for an entertaining period. Neither team could manage a goal however, and the teams went to the locker room tied with no score. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the powerplay and the Crunch held a slim lead in shots over the Moose 9-7.

Second Period

Jason Jaffray was angry with a hit taken from Filip Novak behind the Crunch net and retaliated by boarding Novak just outside the Moose blue line spurring Novak's defence partner Andy Canzanello to come to the defence of his team-mate. The two dropped the gloves and Jaffray handled himself well, landing the better punches and getting Canzanello's jersey over his head before the linsemen stepped in.

Jaffray was assessed a 2:00 boarding penalty and a 5:00 fighting penalty, while Canzanellos was handed 2:00 for instigating, 5:00 for fighting, and a 10:00 misconduct for his troubles.

Both goalies made some nice saves to keep the game tied, and neither team could capitalize on their powerplay opportunities as the period ended with no score. The Moose lead in shots 20-19 in a very close game.

Third Period

Just as the game looked as though it was going to overtime as a scoreless draw, Jason Jaffray wristed a shot from just inside the left face-off circle that found its way through the legs of Ty Conklin with :05 left in the game. The dramatic last-second goal gave the Moose a much needed road win 1-0. Dany Sabourin, playing his second game with the Moose on a conditioning assignment, earned the first shutout of the season for Manitoba in the victory. Ty Conklin had made some great saves for the Crunch to keep his team in it, but just came up short. The win improves the Moose record to 6-8-2-2 on the season.
