The Moose were right in the game versus the Hershey Bears until they surrendered two shorthanded goals on the same powerplay in the middle of the second period. The Moose were never able to recover as they fell 7-3 to the reigning Calder Cup Champions. The Bears improved their road record to a perfect 8-0 with the victory.

First Period

Jessie Schultz was assessed the first penalty of the game as he took a hooking penalty just outside the Hershey blueline.

On the subsequent powerplay, the Moose did a nice job of getting in the shooting lanes and blocking the Hershey shots. Drew MacIntyre was only called on to make one save, a long shot from the point.

Matt Koalska took a pass along the side boards and skated out to the middle of the ice, and on what appeared like an innocent shot on net, the puck drifted high into the glove side corner of the net behind MacIntyre. The Moose goaltender appeared to be screened on the play by his own defender. Stephen Werner drew the lone assist on Koalska's first goal and first shot on net as a member of the Hershey Bears.

The Moose bounced back on the 11th goal of the season by Jason Jaffray. Jesse Schultz broke in down the right-side boards and sucked two defenders to him before he fed a nice cross-crease pass that Jaffray burried high to the blocker side on Maxime Daigneault. Brad Moran drew the second assist on the game-tyeing goal at 15:51 of the first.

With Jesse Schultz serving his second penalty of the first period, Lee Goren stole the puck at the Moose blue line and broke in shorthanded on the Hershey net, firing a shot that rang off the crossbar. On the same powerplay Drew MacIntyre came up with a huge acrobatic save, as Joey Tenute wristed a shot that was labelled for the top corner that MacIntyre made a rolling save on with his pads in the air. The Moose broke up a chance in the neutral zone and Jason Jaffray broke in on the second shorthanded breakaway of the penalty. Jaffray made a nice move and had goalie Maxime Daigneault down-and-out, but he just missed, and the puck deflected into the netting behind the Bears' goal.

The Moose and Bears concluded one of the most exciting periods of hockey tied at one goal apiece, as both teams went back-and-forth for the entire period.

Second Period

With Bears centre Joey Tenute in the box for hooking, Drew MacIntyre went behind his net to try and beat Hershey forward Alexandre Giroux to the puck. He did but Giroux gloved the puck down and quickly wrapped the puck around the net before MacIntyre could get back in goal to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. Then only :27 later on the same penalty kill Matt Hendricks picked off a pass just outside the Moose blueline as Manitoba was breaking out of their own zone. Hendricks broke in all alone and made a nice move to beat MacIntyre for the second shorthanded goal against on the same powerplay.

The Moose scored a goal of their own on their fourth powerplay of the game, when Brandon Reid wristed a shot from the point that found its way past Daigneault. Brad Moran fed a pass from the left hand boards to Reid who fired the shot on net. The puck appeared to deflect off a Hershey defender in front of the goal as Lee Goren was creating a screen on the Bears netminder. The goal made the score 3-2 in favour of Hershey.

Eric Fehr parked in front of the net, restored the two-goal advantage for the visitors as he tipped a hard shot by Dave Steckel from the point. The goal came just 1:07 after the Moose had scored to get within a goal.

Third Period

*Note: Wade Flaherty took over for Drew MacIntyre in between the posts for the final period.

With Hershey enjoying their fifth powerplay of the game, Jonas Johansson fired a hard shot that found its way past Wade Flaherty. Flaherty had a couple of Bears parked in front of his goal making it difficult for him to see the puck.

1:33 later Dave Steckel picked off a pass just inside the Moose blueline and fired a shot that Eric Fehr deflected between the pads of Flaherty. The goal was the second of the game for the Winkler native, playing in front of several hometown fans who made the trip in to the MTS Centre.

Jonas Johansson fired a hard shot from the left slot, that appeared to beat Flaherty glove side, but the puck came out hard off the back crossbar and Quintin Laing burried the rebound to make sure of the goal. Laing was credited with the goal his second of the season for the Bears. The goal put the game out of reach for the home squad, now down 7-2.

Jannik Hansen added a late goal for the Moose as he beat Daigneault five-hole from a sharp angle. Tyler Bouck got his third assist of the season on the goal but it was too little too late.

The Bears proved too much for the Moose on this day, improving their impressive road record to 8-0 on the season. The Moose will now head out on a three-game road trip that starts next Friday, taking them to Rochester, Syracuse, and Hamilton.
