The Moose came back with a much grittier effort in the second game of the back-to-back series with the Phantoms. Philadelphia pressed to tie the game late in the third but Manitoba was able to fend them off to earn their second win of the season, their first at home.

First Period
For the second game in a row local boy, Riley Cote took the first penalty of the game, an interference penalty at 1:26.
The Moose could not get much going on their power play, but they did appear to have a lot more jump than they did in game 1 of the series.
It became obvious that the Moose were determined to play a more physical game when Mike Brown and Tristan Grant got into a fight at 3:39 of the period in the corner behind Flaherty's net. Both players got some good licks in before Brown landed on his back, and the linesmen stepped in to break it up.
Rick Rypien had a great opportunity as the Moose had some great pressure in the Phantoms' zone just firing a shot past the far corner. Rypien then skated hard as the puck wrapped around the zone and wall-papered one of the Phantoms on the far boards.
The physicality continued as Ben Eager slashed Joe Rullier instigating a fight in front of the Moose bench at 7:10 of the first. Rullier appeared to get the better hand in this one as he eventually slammed Eager to the ice to end the fight. Eager was assessed an extra two-minute slashing penalty on the play to give the moose a power play.
Mike Keane scored his first goal of the season just as the power play was about to expire at 11:10 of the period. Keane stormed across the blueline and broke in on Martin Houle beating him low to right corner. Houle appeared to get fooled by the shot as he had started to slide across his crease, expecting Keane to shoot far-side which created a gap at the near post where the veteran Keane made no mistake. Alex Edler and Patrick Yetman got the assists on the goal.
The Moose got into penalty trouble in the second half of the period as Brandon Reid and Mike Keane took consecutive penalties, but the home squad was able to kill off both penalties to maintain their one-goal lead.
The physical play continued to end the period as Tyler Bouck and Frederik Cabana got in a fight to close out the first. Bouck was assessed the instigator penalty in that fight to put the Phantoms on the power play to start the second period.
Second Period
The bulk of the first few minutes were spent in the Moose zone as they were killing Bouck's penalty and then Prestin Ryan's roughing penalty at 3:03.
The play went end-to-end for the next while with both teams getting some shots but neither team really threatened for a goal until the Moose went on the power play.
The Moose had great pressure in the Phantoms' zone while enjoying consecutive power play opportunities. The home team appeared to have scored early in the power play as Brandon Reid banged away at a rebound that eventually crossed the goal line, only to have the referee call the goal off because the net had come off before the puck went in. The Moose spent almost the entire power play in the Phantoms' zone as they worked the puck around, but they could not get any good shots on net, and the few that made it through, Martin Houle was able to corral.
Once the Phantoms were able to kill off their penalties they managed to get a terrific scoring chance on their fore-check as rookie alex Edler coughed up the puck in front of his own net, but Wade Flaherty bailed out his young defenceman with a fantastic glove save to keep the Moose up by one.
Near the end of the period Mike Keane took a slashing penalty to put the Phantoms back on the power play.
Third Period
The Moose managed to kill off the Keane penalty without allowing a shot and once the penalty expired had a few great scoring chances on Houle in the Philly zone.
But the Phantoms came back and Stefan Ruzicka scored his fourth goal of the season for the Phantoms at 3:28 of the third to tie the game at one. Wade Flaherty appeared to be completely screened on the shot from between the face-off circles as he barely waved at the shot that went directly into the top corner. Mark Cullen got the lone assist on the goal.
Mike Keane drew a hooking penalty on David Printz at 9:59 as he streaked in on a partial break-away.
Wade Flaherty caught the Phantoms trying to make a change on the penalty kill as he slapped a nice pass to Rick Rypien just outside the Philadelphia blue line sending him and Nathan Smith in on a two-on-one where Rypien fed a beautiful touch pass cross-crease that Smith tipped in past Houle. The power play goal came at 11:52 of the third.
Mike Brown absolutely pasted Jusi Timonen behind the Phantoms net. Timonen got caught with his head down as he tried to clear the puck out of the Phantoms zone when Brown knocked him flat on his back.
The Phantoms put some heavy pressure on the Moose in the waining moments of the game as they tried desperately to tie the score, but the Moose were able to fend them off to hold on for the 2-1 victory.
Scratches for the Moose were: Reagan Rome, Nathan McIver, Brad Moran, Jesse Schultz, Adam Keefe, Maxime Fortunus, Lee Goren, Yannick Tremblay, Shaun Heshka.
Scratches for the Phantoms were: Nate Guenin, Matt Ellison, Ryan Potulny, Gino Pisellini, Eric Meloche.
